I have an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player connected to my HTPC.
Recently I heard that an upgrade was available for it.
Since I do not own the XBox itself, is there a way to upgrade it in windows?

The updates for it are solely for the playback software on the Xbox. When you're using it on the PC you're using some other software for all the actual work.
