There is no tuning up the cars there I can remember, but still good vehicular combat and crazy weapons. Slordak 03-31-08, 02:29 PM I believe the closest game on the Xbox 360 is Full Auto. HeadRusch 03-31-08, 04:26 PM Steve Chase I think made Car Wars, and yeah I remember playing that game when D&D went too long back in the old days. MutantsForNukes 03-31-08, 04:43 PM Car Wars is awesome, made by Steve Jackson games. www.sjgames.com I miss those old board games. Avalon Hill and Victory Games were 2 other companies that made them. I believe Avalon Hill went out of business a few years ago. HeadRusch 03-31-08, 04:52 PM Avalon Hill is owned by TSR now, or Wizards of the Coast...whoever. Avalon Hill games were always too advanced for me...you'd buy a $15.00 game with the coolest box art ever, then open the box and find a sheet of hex paper, a crayon, and a 300 page rulebook :D WirelessGuru 03-31-08, 05:23 PM I am dating myself here. do any of you remember the board game ? tune up a car with machine guns then go out and destroy other cars?????? any games like this for the 360 I'd say the closest thing to it in a video game was Activision's Interstate '76 and then sequel Interstate '82. Both still playable on a PC running Windows 95. You may be able to get them to work on XP with some work and an old Video card with "Glide" and predated drivers. I tried to run them on Vista about a month back with no luck. As mentioned by another poster, the closest thing on a console is Vigilante 8 which was a console spinoff of Interstate 76. It was only on the PS1 and N64 but you may be in luck!!! I linked below to an article claiming that Vigilante 8 is headed to the Marketplace for Live Arcade. http://kotaku.com/356626/vigilante-8-officially-returns-via-xbox-live-arcade http://v8arcade.com/ Mindwarper 03-31-08, 05:48 PM I thought carmageddon splat pack was the closeest to deathrace 2000. Lots of good fun. FootballDen 03-31-08, 06:38 PM thanks for all the advice. I wish they would make a game like it, id buy it in a heartbeat. im gonna check out the xbox arcade. MutantsForNukes 03-31-08, 07:43 PM Yeah, I never had the patience to read the manuals for those games, but one friend would always read them and teach us the rules as we went along. We eventually figured out he was making the rules up to his advantage as we played! Mark_Likes_Games 03-31-08, 08:28 PM You guys are so awesome! I loved Car Wars! I would design my perfect arena car and dream about how it was going to rule! Sadly, then I moved and got busy with college so many of my designs went untested... I always wished someone would make these games into computer games - keeping them turn based. I just liked the idea that everything would be in the game, kept track of perfectly by the computer. Range measurements, hit bonuses, chances to wreck - all that stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like the real time stuff also, but it's not as strategic or "plotting" that way. I still have all my Car Wars stuff ... including the zillions of itsy-bitsy counters.... I even had one of my weapon ideas adopted and put into the game.... the "junk dropper" - free ammo, just drop debris on the road behind you! Ah, memories... :) oo7evan 03-31-08, 08:36 PM I never played Car Wars, but I did play Street Rod on PC, it came out in 1989 I think. This game had all the thrilling action of unscrewing manifold plates and filling up gas, followed by street racing and random cops. http://youtube.com/watch?v=EnPJU8ERC-I&feature=related Powered by Soy 04-01-08, 12:16 PM Good times!! I use to play Car Wars all the time when I was younger. Nothing ever beat designing a new car and shopping at Uncle Albert's. http://www.battlegroundsgames.com/CW_VT_Mockup.jpg Mark_Likes_Games 04-01-08, 12:49 PM ^^ Awesome! That's so classic - that's the way I remember it... Run over my spikes you fool!!! What is that scan from though? The "counters" look transparent... is that a shot from an updated rule book? hotdogwater2 04-01-08, 03:40 PM car wars... man that game was awesome FootballDen 04-02-08, 07:23 PM THose turn based games car wars and d and d were awesome and sooooo much fun. We had a fort in the woods when i was 9-17 nad used to play those games all the time. We had this thing build into the side of a hill and was covered with brush it was like a 15 foot by 15 foot fort. We had a piece of plywood that would drop down and we would play the gmaes till all hours of the night. It was a blast, we also used it as a hideout when we egged the older kids. We spent a ton of time in there and upgrading it. We trash picked all the couches. we even had electric sometimes , we ran an extension cord through this crazy old guys yard and hooked into his garage. Hahahha, slowly but surely the car wars and d and d we re replaced by who could get a 12 pack of molson or a mixture of their parents alcohol to make jungle juice. We used it to party in when we didnt have a place to go in hs. Pretty funny. Here is the kicker when i was visiting the parents a few years back someone had bought hte land and was tearing the gorun up and they must have finished for the day. I drove by and saw the inside of our fort and it was all intact it was crazy. I called my old neighborhood budy up and we got a case and sat in the lot just bsing. ahhhhhh good times man |
