OK, trying to be more specific in this post.

I currently have a Sharp DT-100 that I hookup via a long VGA cable to a media center computer. I'd really like to keep the VGA hookup and the computer. What I watch on the PJ over the computer is mostly analog and digital HDTV (OTA) and movies. I need good "SD performance" as I don't think I'll be watching even 1/4 of things in HD for awhile now.

Although I'm happy with the Sharp, I would like to upgrade it and use the Sharp for an outdoor movie setup. So, here are the questions I still don't have clear answers on:

1) What (if any) is the difference between hookup up a HT projector via VGA to computer vs. a DVD player, cable box, etc. via component or HDMI? Am I losing anything noticeable here for SD or HD content?

2) Are there any projectors that would perform better with a computer VGA setup? For example, I notice one of the new BenQ projectors offers some sort of scaler to "upscale" from 480 to 720. The problem is, I don't even know if this works the same when hooked to a computer? As the computer is set to a particular resolution, does the projector somehow recognize the video from some avi movie to be HD or SD? In MCE, I can pretty much set to any resolution I want but again I'm fuzzy on what this all means to the projector. I've fiddled with it a LOT to get my Sharp DT-100 looking the best. Mostly just trial and error and I really don't understand this in detail.

Thanks for any help.
