Here in the UK the BBC are airing CBC News reports from Zimbabwe - as the BBC (like all British broadcasters and I believe US broadcasters) are currently banned from reporting from within Zimbabwe. The CBC are news partners with the BBC AIUI, and BBC World programmes have been carried on CBC Newsworld (and may well still be)

All of the CBC material is being aired in 16:9 SD over here with the reports full-frame 16:9, with archive and non-CBC stuff aspect ratio converted to 16:9 SD (mostly 14:9 pillarbox).

I wasn't aware that CBC News was 16:9 SD or HD. Is it normally - or is this just unique to their Zimbabwe coverage ?

I've never seen 16:9 on CBC News.

The National(CBC News) is presented in high definition. The remote locations are shown as upconverted widescreen.

The flagship CBC newscast "The National" has been produced in HD since 2007. The studio in Toronto is equiped with HD cameras. Most of the news reports, foreign and domestic, are now in 16:9. The Zimbabwe report was in 16:9 last night on "The National". NBC Nightly News, itself being the only HD network newscast from the big 3, also aired the CBC report, but in 4:3. boo!

field reports/live shots 16:9 95%, 4:3 4% (foreign non 16:9 producers), HD 1% (very little).
