stpinindy 03-31-08, 08:06 PM Ad says good rural reception, ugradable firmware, one week program listing, compact, and external power adapter, listed as available. Negatives are made in Korea, high cost. But nobody is talking about it? got my first coupon and its good till 6-18 and another will be mailed out much later.

Malouff 04-03-08, 01:47 PM stpinindy,
Please post a review once you get the box and if possible with pictures.
I personally don't like the blue and black user interface as shown in the User's Manual and that is why I haven't been interested.

AvioWow..so much is wrong or screwy with that info I don't know where to start...
"Need to be green!" umm..what?
"Broadcast is high definition, for older TV’s this will mean better picture quality, equivalent to DVD picture quality." intentionally misleading?
"Hardware Specifications:
CPU: Zoran, ZR39740
PCB size: 110mm x 100 mm
PCB layer: 2 layers" are they serious? These are the "specs"? :p
I don't know...I'll have to have some real world or professional reviews before even considering this one.;)
stpinindy 04-05-08, 10:48 PM Ordered from solid signal on thursday morning, shipped that day, received today. Programmed the channels with the antenna for my vizio vx 37 l and it found all but channel 13. Channel 13 on the vizio pixalates, and goes out often. Perfect picture, good sound. It did get hot after several hours of being on.epg goes out as far as the channels broadcast, as much as 12 hours.

DT-46 should come in with all the others.Where are you located?

Martinsville, 4,6,8,20,30,40,42,59,and 63. That is using radio shack indoor/outdoor amplified hdtv antenna. With rabbit ears it only picks up 4,30,42,63. Tempted to try the phillips that is similar to save $10 but if it doesn't work it is no savings. Strange thing is the monster in the attic gets worse reception than the little r/s.

You need to install an outdoor antenna to pick up everything reliably from Indy.A CM 4228 would probably work.
stpinindy 04-06-08, 02:44 PM dt 46 is 13.1, it comes and goes with r/s on the porch, not in the house. Why is it people are saying there is no such thing as an hd antenna when the newer style ones get soo much better dtv reception.
Scooper 04-06-08, 04:26 PM There is no such thing as an HDTV antenna - there are only TV antennas. "HDTV Antenna" is strictly a marketing term to get unknowledgeable suckers to shell out for a new TV antenna... that may not work any better than their current "analog" antenna.
stpinindy 04-08-08, 05:42 PM Someone asked about the power supply, it is 6.5 volts.

Can you please post a picture of the EPG that the Microgem uses.
Either that or can you tell me if it uses a current known EPG that other boxes use Pictures of EPG's (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13705330)
Malouff 04-24-08, 07:19 PM stpinindy provided me two pictures of the MicroGEM EPG.
They are larger in the attachments

I would say that it is like the Tivax STB-T9
although the images both look more like the
Channel Information/Program Information
But both the Information and EPG do look similar in both models.
Thank You stpinindy
justenf2getby 06-09-08, 10:33 PM local store of a larger store chain in Midwest (Meijer) has used up it's stock of Philco and now going to stock the Microgem. Anybody else have one of these? Price to be $49.99, same as Venturer at Target it sounds.
Have read the postings for the Venturer here at AVS am considering it.
using: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_CECB_units to compare now.
I would like volume control but would sacrifice for better PQ and channel change time.
CasualOTAer 06-13-08, 03:06 PM What voltage and current specs are on the wall adapter for this CECB?
I was really thinking of buy this box, but it shuts down after 4 hours making it useless for recording.
EDIT: I read the on-line manual and there appears no way to turn it off.
Can anyone confirm this, STPinindy?
Also, the Consumer Reports image stretching thing. How bad? They should have quoted percentages.
