So I was talking to a guy online who I play in online video games with and he said his tv broke and he is getting a new one. I asked what was wrong with it and he didn't know. He was gonna get it fixed, but it would cost $200 just for someone to look at it, so he figured he would just get a new tv. BTW, the tv I am thinking of buying is:

http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/Sony-Grand_WEGA_KDF-42WE655.htm

Anyway, he said he would sell the old/broken one for $100. I think this is a great investment for a 42" HDTV that is currently selling for $1,700. Also, he lives about 30 minutes away from me and is more than willing to help me in anyway with the transaction. (help put it in my car, meet me somewhere, etc.) Anyway, he told me the error he gets is:

5 times, Diagnosis: White balance failure (Not balanced) Possible causes: Video out (IC7101, 7201, 7301) is faulty (CR, CG, CB board), CRT drive (IC309) is faulty (A board), G2 is improperly adjusted. Symptoms of the problem: No raster is generated, CRT cathode current detection reference pulse output is small.

I have no idea what this is and how much it would be to fix it. I figured if I could get someone to fix it for a good price it would be a great investment. I currently have a 61" Samsung DLP in my basement. But I would like to put this one in my living room where I have a big, boxy 35" Toshiba Standard TV.

So does anyone know what this error means and how much it would cost to fix it. And who might be able to fix it? Like a circuit city or an electronic store like that? I think this is a good deal, but I don't know the extent of the damage so I would like to get some input from others. Also, is this even a good television w/ out the problems. In addition, if there is anything else I should ask the seller please let me know so I could get some more insight as to what I'm dealing with.

Below is a picture of the TV:

According to the link it's a rear projector. A used 42" rear projector isn't worth much in good working order, maybe $400 max. $1700 for a 42" rear projector? No way they would be selling for that much. I don't know what could cause those problems but that doesn't sound good. I'd pass on it and look for a "good" used one.
