View Full Version : No more false wall - how to manage wires?

I was going to build a false wall to cover the speakers in the front. However, after putting the speakers on the stage it looks like a false wall would look boxy and clunky. So, I have decided to ditch the false wall and show off the Paradigms. There are two Studio 60's, two Seismic 12's and a CC-690 on the stage.

Now I have to deal with the wire management on the stage. My biggest concern is covering a surge protector for the two subwoofers. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

ideas,

1)A surge protector located at the breaker box for the whole house or just for that circuit

2)They make an outlet surge protector to replace a standard wall outlet. Fits in the outlet box.

3) black against black. Wrap the protector in black fabric, if it is sitting on a black stage in front of a black wall it will be really hard to see.

Powerbridge, or a DIY inlet/outlet pair. Your subwoofers would plug into a "normal" wall outlet, which would be hard wired directly to a wall inlet near a surge protector in a concealed location. Then a short extension cord jumper would connect the wall inlet to a surge protector receptacle.

If your other audio equipment is also plugged into the same surge protector, this has the added benefit of keeping signal ground on the same circuit as both the receiver ground and the subwoofer ground, minimizing the chances for ground loops.

Thanks for the input.

Right now everything (projector, receiver, PS3, buttkicker amps, subwoofers, etc.) is wired to the same 20amp circuit. Everything except the subwoofers plugs into a Belkin PF60 surge protector/line contioner. The subwoofers are the only things that need to plug into a surge protector outside of the Belkin surge protector.

So, assuming the surge protector has to stay on the stage and needs to be hidden - what's the best way to do it? Should I build a long thin velvet covered box that houses the surge protector and speaker wires?

Let me know if you have any other ideas.
