Hi Everyone, After a year of frustration with Panasonic and my PT-AX100U, they have agreed to let me return to the store I purchased it from for a full refund.

Just wondering what everyone would suggest I get as a replacement? I believe I paid 2600$ CAD for it a year ago.

Thanks
Ryan

At that price I'd get the Epson 1080UB or the BenQ W5000 from Costco.

I had a ax100 for 2 years'Not one problem.Have a ax200 now.No problems. So as you know you can allways get a bad fp no matter who makes it.So it is a matter of chance really.I know many who have years of use out of their ax100 with no problems. So don't let one bad apple make your choice.I really like the ax200.It is sharper than a ax100.BOB

I'm not sure what he^^ said (This message is hidden because buddahead is on your ignore list.) but I'm sure it was something about dust blobs. :) I have no info on pricing in Canada, but the AE2000 throws a nice picture.

I totally agree. I really think I just got a dud thats all. Crap happens. And since the price of the 2000U has come down I can almost get it for the same price. And honestly I wouldnt mind getting something in the Panasonic family since I have been dealing with them for over a year on the ax100u. Speaking of which, I will have one brand new bulb for the ax100u still in the box for sale if anyones interested.

Thanks

Hi, I live in Edmonton, too. The 2000U is going for $3,500 CAN locally (Audio 5.1, on 63rd). I haven't seen it for less here, anyway.

Good luck.

There is a place I deal with here in Edmonton where it would be definitely cheaper then that...hopefully..hahah.

Who knows. I just have to wait to hear from Panasonic once everything is finalized.

If you need the lumens, AX200. 1000 hours+ and no problems for moi. You can use your extra bulb that you have in the ax200 also.

I had the ae2000 for a month between my ax100 and ax200.It is by far better than the ax100 200..Only problem after 40 hours major dust blobs. This has happen over and over with this fp.For that reason I canot recommend it even though the pic is outstanding. But if you do not mind taking it apart ever so often to try and clean then /beware.

There is a wholesale place in the west end that provides zero service but has excellent prices. But all 4 of my Panasonic projectors were from Japan, and no duty. Extremely satisfied, but it looks like they are out of business.

The Canadian MSRP for that projector is $3,499. http://www.panasonic.ca/english/audiovideo/television/homecinema/PTAE2000.asp

If you can get it, in Canada, with a Canadian warranty, for anything less than that, please PM me the information. Even the AX200, so far as I know, cannot be found in Canada for less than $1,999, which is why most Canadians go the Projector People route, and pray they get a good unit, so they don't have to pay to ship it back for warranty service. Even the people at Panasonic Canada I've spoken to have said that they would probably buy either of those projectors from the States, rather than pay the ridiculous premium that the PC distributors charge to their retailers. I'd make sure that this place is selling you an authentic Canadian warranty, because you won't get one in the $2,600 range.

What I found by buying from Japan is that with the savings, I could almost buy another one and have it waiting as a spare. Of course I never did that because I never had problems. I have probably saved about $7K over my last 4 projectors. If I am buying the AE2000 today, I cannot see myself buying it from a Canadian supplier.

Let me get this straight...you are seriously considering purchasing a Panasonic projector in Canada - where they mark-up the price on Canadians far more than any other projector company - for a second time?!? Add to that you are looking at the ae2000, an inferior machine in virtually every way to the Epson 1080UB and BenQ W5000...which are reasonably priced in Canada. Ugghh...

To each his own I suppose but I for one could never rationalize the purchase of a more expensive (because of Panasonic Canada) projector that isn't as good as its less expensive competition (Epson and BenQ).

My advice - get the BenQ (or Epson) and spend the extra $'s that you would have spent on Panny's Canadian mark-up to get Michael Chen to drive out from Calgary to calibrate it for you. I assure you that your Oilers will look far better than you could have imagined...NEXT season.

NeoOiler
04-03-08, 02:55 PM
Yikes...hahah. I havent decided yet. The 1080UB looks really good, that may be the one I go with anyways.

As far as my Oilers, yes disappointing season, but come on I love the Sens but could they be any more pathetic lately, they were in first flying, they will be lucky to win any games in the first round. I truly hope they do, but yikes.

My teams, like last year have to be the Pens and the Sens. Too bad they played each other in the first round last year.

Where would you suggest getting the Epson in Canada??

Thanks
Ry

Hey, it was a decent ending to a terrible season.

Great future with the young kids, billionaire owner, new building in a couple of years, plus no top five draft pick for Brian Burke. Given how the season began, the Mighty Copper and Blue have nothing but blue skies ahead.

As for the Epson, you can order that from Quebec Acoustic. Or, you can go to National Audio Video on Stony Plain Road. They're a very knowledgeable Epson dealer. Call ahead, and they'll demo a model for you.

Yeah, people were saying it was just a lucky streak, but a streak is only a few games, we went on a two month run...it was awesome..just a few games short. I really hope next season is awesome. Having one owner should really help us in buying a nice superstar or something.

Are you from Edmonton as well

Thanks

Quebec Accoustics, Ontario Accoustics, CompleteIT and ProjectorsPlus (Calgary). Let them fight it out to see who will give you the best deal.

I just got my new projector (Mits HC1500) and I was all geared up for some Sens playoff hockey in HD. Sadly, that might have to wait until next season! I've been a Pens fan for many years...I went to Peter Lee Hockey School when I was a kid and started routing for the BEFORE Mario! Now that was a bad hockey team!!!

I'm very serious when I mention Michael Chen. He's one of the best calibrators out there and he lives in Calgary. People around here line-up to get his service when he does his 'tour' through Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal twice a year. He's calibrated my displays and several of my friend's and he's turned our budget projectors into displays that would knock your socks off!

Good luck and enjoy!!!

The 810 is more expensive than the 720 isn't it? If you're looking 720p, no need to look at a higher priced unit. How much were they asking for it?

Just curious as to why you're not looking at DLP.

Advice: Do NOT get the Mitsubishi HC1500 unless you are sure you aren't rainbow sensitive. I can't even look at that projector as I found out today.

Haven't they gotten any 720s in their showroom yet? Anyway, the 720 has newer panels than the 810. I did like that demo unit they had, but the only reason it's more expensive is the extra third year of the warranty. If the rebate offer on the 720 is still in effect, I'd get that. The guy I spoke to had some strange reservations about the 720, but he really knew his stuff, so...

Don't let them push that 810 on you, regardless. If that was his only solution forget them and buy the 720 online.

Yes, but so does the 720 until April 17th. And, it's only $1,299 ($1,199 after the rebate). Unless you really want that extra third year on the warranty, don't buy the 810. There's no reason to.

The rebate is not listed on the Epson site, but it has been extended to April 17th. At least one online Canadian retailer is stating so, anyway.

Go read the 720 owners' thread. Many Canadians have gone this route. I almost did, myself, but I went DLP instead. The 720 is a very nice deal, if you're in Canada.
