I have the opportunity to pick up an LFM-1 for $400 used locally. I just purchased some Polk Monitor 70's and an Onkyo tx-sr605. I was really only planning on spending $300 max on a sub, but this seems like a pretty good deal since it's local. Anyone have any opinions on this sub with my current setup? At that price range should I be looking at something else?

Edit-I realized I forgot to add some things.

Room Size: 20x11 not sure on ceiling height
Listening Habits: I will generally be using this set up for HT and video games, with a little music thrown in. Probably a 40/40/20 mix.

If you can wait as many as 6-10 weeks, you can probably do at least as well if not better by going with something like the Ed A2-300. Are you sure that the Outlaw has not been damaged? You don't want to get stuck with a sub that has a problem.

The type of speakers you have and your receiver should not make any difference with any of the internet direct subs.

You should check out the SVS PB-10NSD. It will have more bass below 25Hz. The PB-10NSD is flat to at least 19Hz in your room. $429 plus shipping. Highly recommended. There is no waiting for the SVS PB-10NSD.

The SVS PB-10NSD looks like a monster. Is there any inherent downside to using the AVR for the crossover settings since this sub doesn't have any built in?

HSU - save a few coins and get the 3 3 for that size room. Great product, price and just as importantly, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

The lack of a crossover in the PB10 is not an issue for me. I think most people with a fairly modern receiver have no need for their sub amp to have a crossover or speaker-level inputs. IMHO your Onkyo 605 has everything you need.

The only HSU in the same price range is the STF-2 or the VTF-1, and I don't see any big difference between the two despite them being $50 apart. I also noticed these are downfiring. If I place these on carpet will these little feet be enough to elevate it?

Is this the original sub Outlaw first started selling? If so, I have one and while it's a great sub, 400 seems a bit high for a used one. I believe I paid 579 new a year or so back. So, at 400 I might look elsewhere, as the Outlaw is great, but has little output below 25hz (measured in my room), which is how it was designed. See if the seller will take your 300. At that price, I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

He said it was purchased 6 months back, but after looking around, $400 is definitely too much since the STF-2 can be had for $350 new. I'm still wondering if those little feet on the SFT-2 would be a problem in thick carpet, though. Anyone have any experience with that?

You may have to cut and paint a piece of 3/4" MDF to put underneath if the pile in your carpet is really thick or unscrew the feet and replace with some taller ones.

Hmmm....that almost sounds like too much work and makes me lean towards the PB-10NSD. I think I may have to do just that. Thank you everyone for your input :)
