I dont know if this has been covered, but it seems the Office is actually in HD on TBS-HD. i think this is the first time they've done this? or am i being fooled?

Yes the episode is really in hd, the logo is a giveaway you can tell if its stretched or not if the logo is that size.

It was 16:9, which was nice to see, but the PQ did nothing for me, I still don't think it was HD

Does anyone watch Family Guy? The TBS log looks "normal" for once.... dont think its true HD, but the image doesnt look that bad.

The fact that the bug is in HD now is a pretty good indication that TBS will finally be more than a 24x7 upconverted and stretched mess. It'll probably be more like 20x7. ;)

The true story should be this coming Sunday, when they start showing MLB!

MLB games will be in HD, just like they were last year. And as we found out last year, it means nothing as far as other HD content is concerned.

The movie I Am Sam is in HD right now.

So in the same week Food Network and HGTV decrease their HD and TBS adds some. Maybe they were waiting for baseball season.

I'm almost certain that the movie A Christmas Story was shown in HD back in December when they were running it over and over. And there was a Frank Caliendo stand-up special that was definitely in HD last November (not to be confused with the non-HD Frank TV), but other than baseball last fall, that's been just about all the HD I've seen on TBS.

And speaking of baseball on TBS, the playoffs looked superb on there last fall. Let's hope they keep up the good work this season.

"A Christmas Story" was in HD on TNT, but not TBS. The only thing I've seen in HD on TBS since we've had it in November was one of those awards shows, might have been the People's Choice Awards or something like that. I'll have to check it out tonight.

Apparently HD on TBS is what really comes after the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse come riding through. Unfortunately, only one of the horses could be seen in HD - the rest of the horses had fat heads and butts.

Right. My bad.Yeah, that threw me off, too. A day or 2 before Christmas TNT played A Christmas Story in HD, which led me to believe it would be on TBS on Christmas in HD... which it wasn't. :(

correct. but if you compare the TBS-HD version of family guy to the one playing on the basic TBS channel, the difference is huge.

It looked "less stretched" than ususal, and the TBS logo was the small on in the lower right. Even Seinfeld looks better....and I've avoided TBS for quite a while because of the "ripple" effect of the side stretch.

It wasn't doing that during those two shows. Either they've figured out how to do a better stretch....or something else is going on.

Update: I checked out Friends. It also looked "unstretched". Now I'm begining to think they are zooming in, rather than stretching.

I think they may have had an equipment problem. At the end of the 6:30 ep my picture was frozen(but the audio kept moving along). Then 7:00 ep was stretched. The 7:30 ep had the opening sequence stretched but now appears to be in HD.

Definitely stretch.

Family Guy has a linear stretch but commercials have the funhouse mirror effect.

Saw Raymond and Payne in HD earlier... wasn't sure if I should believe this thread until I saw it with my own eyes!

Although, when they came back from the final commercial break for one episode of Payne, they were in stretch-o-vision because they were about to shrink the screen to show the end credits while the show was still on... I hate when TNT does that too.

BUT, looks like maybe things are looking up for TBS"HD"!

Get an umbrella, about to rain on the parade!

So what if all this HD content is just TBS testing their capability to make sure the MLB stuff is broadcast fine? After that they go back to their distorting ways. Hmm? ;)

Romy and Michelle is currently in stretchovision.

Sounds totally plausible to me. What is so frustrating, is that I KNOW they can deliver great looking HD. Living in Atlanta, we had the first Braves game broadcast OTA and on local cable in HD on Peachtree TV, (along with the MLB playoffs that TBS did last year). Which is owned by the same folks, and the picture quality was as usual, incredible. There is ZERO reasons for TBS not to be showing a great majority of their shows in true HD.

Raymond seasons 1-3 were done in 4:3, while Raymond seasons 4-9 were done in 16:9. It could have something to do with that.

Last night Raymond was in HD, Friends was SD, and Harold and Kumar were HD. However, why is it that Raymond and Friends blared through my 5.1 set up as 5 channel stereo? Very annoying. Harold and Kumar was correctly received as 5.1 surround.

Check the "HD syndication ... more on the way" thread. Apparently Raymond was shot in 16:9 from the beginning because one of the episodes from the first 3 seasons has aired in HD on syndication in 16:9 format, but it was NOT cropped from the 4:3 presentation. There was someone with some foresight when they started to shoot that series back in the 90s.

I don't get TBS-HD yet (Verizon), so I have not seen the channel, which is probably a good thing. But I take this sudden start-up of some series programs in HD as something that was likely planned some time back to coincide with the start of the MLB season. TBS likely had no or only 1 HD tape machine/server, so they ordered & installed them with a March 31 /start of the 2nd quarter start-up date. They have gotten the HD versions of Raymond & the Office and will probably add HD versions of other series to the library as they go along. Since they have a lot of sitcoms that were never done in HD, notably Friends, Sex and the City, Home Improvement, etc looking at their schedule, they will be limited in how much true HD they can do.

But since Seinfeld is known to have been remastered in HD, that is a candidate for future HD showings, but would TBS-HD show the 4:3 HD version stretched to 16:9? I would not put that past one of the stretch-o-vision channels.

The presentation of Lord of the Rings The Two Towers seems to be Zoomed. It doesn't look stretched, but doesn't look OAR either. Input?

O.K. I went to Imdb.com and found out that it should be 2.35:1. So is it zoomed or did they take the mat off? It doesn't look stretched.
BTW, It does look like HD to me.

I looked through the other thread, and wow... that's some serious foresight. I have the first four seasons of DVDs and the first 3 seasons are 4:3, but the fourth is 16:9. IMDB confirmed this when I looked it up the other day while posting on DBStalk.

I'd imagine the full 16:9 versions are also going to be coming to Bluray.

The Office is in HD. Great. I had been watching The Office on the SD TBS channel because of the rediculous stretching they were doing. There's another problem though. The sound is awful! Has anyone else noticed this? My receiver is getting 5.1 DD but the voices are coming from behind me!? What the hell? They get one thing right and screw something else up.

i think the sound was mono, all the same audio coming from every speaker.

i had to switch my receiver to stereo to force everything to the front.
