Hey, what do you guys think this black mark is on my TV? Its a JVC D-ILA HD52Z575. There is no damage on the outside of the screen. It looks like a paintbrush with black paint ran down the inside of the screen.

It kind of disappears when you look up at it from below.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Separation of screen layers? Fluid weeping up between the layers? Has anyone tried to wash it with too much liquid?

Usually we just wipe it with a slightly damp cloth. I have kids though, so its definitely a possibility they spilled something in there somehow. So you think it is some kind of water damage? It doesn't really appear to be the result of like a physical blow to the screen.

A bump hard enough to loosen the layers might not leave a mark on the outside if it was done by something like a kid's head. From the look of it whatever caused it was coming down at an angle, just like in a wrestling match.
Over the years here I've read lots of horror stories about HDTVs and kids, usually involving damage by sharp objects or chemicals. Those plastic screens are a weak point of HDTVs of all kinds, although some offer protective screens.
Some sets are easier than others to replace the screen, but with a set as old as yours it may not be worth the cost (not sure what that is, you'd have to ask around).
That could just be dirt on the inside of your screen. I read about several marks like this that turned out to be dirt or a bug. I'm not sure about your model, but my 61FB97 has a door on the side that can be opened giving access to use some compressed air or something to clean the screen. May be worth a look.

Thanks for the help. The way it looks, I just think if I can get in there somehow I can clean it. It is starting to fade away though, and is about a quarter as dark as it was at first. I'm thinking maybe it was water damage after all??

Well, I guess it was water. It has completely cleared up now.
