I am purchasing my first HDTV very soon, once I have enough cash and decide precisely what I am getting. Can anyone please comment on the quality of Verizon Fios for HD and SD programming?

I am going to be using a Tivo HD dual-tuner with two cable cards from Verizon, so if anyone has this setup in particular, I'd really appreciate the input on quality or if there are any problems. For my bedroom, I will be using a SD Tivo unit with a Fios box.

Not to stir up issues from another thread, but I found a post that details numerous issues with Samsung TVs in particular. Sounds fishy, but many different people reported the same thing. Anyone else having issues with other brands?

FiOS HD Picture quality is considered the best at this point in time.

There is a Comcast Picture Quality issues thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1008271) which contains some FiOS screenshots for comparison. So check that out.

Wow! That is quite a difference. Thanks for posting that.

My only competitor for Fios is IO Digital Cable, but I have pretty much decided on Fios for a variety of reasons. Anyone else have feeback on quality or any issues with TVs or the Tivo setup I mentioned?

check the FIOS PROGRAMING thread:

you may find lots of great info there about how Fiber customers use TiVo's .

Verizon is falling behind in QUANTITY, but quality is still top notch. HD is good of course, but their SD channels look about as good as OTA digital SD.

As in fewer HD channels available?

Did you mean "as good as OTA digital SD" as a good thing or a bad thing?

He means that in a good way. On most systems, the digital SD channels have very poor quality due to years of slowing increasing the compression applied to them. So they tend to have muted colors and decreased resolution. But FiOS has treated the SD channels correctly and they look really good for being SD.

For most people around here, the only way to see SD quality look very good is via their OTA broadcasters.
