johnnyknoxsvill 04-02-08, 12:26 PM Im going to be in the market for a 1080p projector in a few months. I wanted to know if you guys have any recomendations. Ive only done a lil research and figure I would ask here to point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can give.

Visit projectorcentral.com and projectorreviews.com. Both sites have reviews on the 1080p PJ's and it is a good starting place. Is this your first PJ? If yes, you also need to understand the difference between LCD and DLP as well as have an idea of lens shift and throw distance. This may have a big impact as to which PJ you are able to buy.
Once you know this and do some research, I highly recommend combing through the various AVS threads for the PJ you are interested in. See what people are saying about them.

louthewiz 04-02-08, 02:12 PM Also remember that 1080p units are not as bright as a good 720p unit , so you will also need to take that into consideration.

I'm in the HDTV market right now too and trying to decide what to do.
I'm leaning towards Plasma, but still considering Projectors. I really don't know ANYTHING about projectors at all. I've just started doing research.
That said, I visited both sites above, and both seem to be giving high marks to
the Panasonic PT-AE2000U. Which is right around the price range I was looking
to spend. Can anyone out there give me some feedback on this guy?

I almost picked the Panasonic PJ but ended up getting the Mitsubishi HC4900 for over $1K cheaper on a good deal (it is also a 1080p PJ). If prices would have been closer I would have grabbed the Panasonic.
The Panasonic should be an excellent PJ for you. It is LCD and has tremendous amount of flexibility for mounting, throw, and lens shift. That said there is a lot of positive feedback on the new Epson 1080p UB PJ as well as the Sony VW-40. I think those three PJ's would be my top choice right now in the $3K and under territory. I definitely recommend you read the Panasonic AE2000 thread here at AVS. I personally really like Panasonic as a brand name. I have had very good luck with their products and service over the years.

I too am searching for a projector.
Throw: 12 feet
Room: 12 x 15 x 8.5
Sources: Comcast Cable, Panasonic Blu Ray
Lighting: Room has around 70 sq feet of windows, so it wont be the darkest room
any tips? leaning towards the AE2000 but the dust blobs are a concern.
Thanks
