i just purchased a samsung hl-s6187w from circuit city for $1000, a good deal.

ive been reading a lot in various forums and websites about my tv. now im thinking of swapping it out for an hlt6187s for $1619.

do you think this is worth it? from what some people have told me, the led picture is better than the bulb picture. with the led you dont have to worry about the light tunnel going up, replacing a bulb every year or fixing a color wheel.

im all for a better picture and not having to worry about repairs and new bulbs all the time. ill spend an extra 700 dollars now to have a tv that works with no probs for 9 yrs instead of messing with the lamps and ultimately spending more money.

im no expert here but i know some of you guys are. in your opinion would you swap these televisions? or maybe i should just keep the lamp and get a 4 year warranty. (i think circuit city wanted almost 500 bucks for the warranty tho)

First I would not reccommend any of the 2006 HL-S models which went out of production a year ago when the 2007 HL-T models were released since the video processing chips get much better every year.
I have almost 4 year old HL-P model with a bulb and I would never buy another bulb unit since replacement bulbs cost $200 and you have to order them over the internet.
I bought my first and only replacement well in advance of its being needed and had trouble replacing it after it lasted 2 1/2 years. However the brightness of the bulb unit decreased significantly in the last 3 months of its life

Get the hlt6187s - it will save you $$$ in the long run. The picture quality is superb on these sets. Just pray you get a set without bowing or geometry issues.
$1619 is a great price, it must be refurb or something???

I had my HLS-6187S replaced by Samsung with the HLT-6187S. I have to say my new set is better than the old one. The biggest improvement is in color accuracy. My "S" series had a great picture, but certain tones were never quite right. People always looked like they just walked out of a tanning booth, and the color orange always looked more red than orange. Adjusting the tint or individual color adjustments didn't help. Another plus is my TV is on for long periods of time everyday. The LED never requires a new lamp, and uses less electricity. As for bowing, my new set is near perfect while my old set was just OK. .One other thing I like about the "T" series is it has an extra HDMI input, and the inputs are much more easily accessible.

they had one in the box that had a board replaced and the other was a floor model.

i saw this tv at tweeter. i bought my tv from circuit city. now if i take my tv back to circuit city and they have the same tv tweeter does, i can get it for 1619 + 10% off that price because of their price match deal thingy?
