I have a Panny bluray hooked up to an Onkyo 805 going to my Sony RP that supports 1080I, all are hooked up via HDMI. My concern is that my hd cable coming in at 1080I has a really nice picture but when playing a Bluray disc albeit a nice picture it doesn't seem quite as good as the HD cable. The Panny BR 1080P passes thru the Onkyo 805 and I'm wondering if my TV is down scaling the picture.

I can't locate my TV manual, or any of them for that matter to look this info up.

The TV is a 3 yr old Sony Wega rear projection KDF-50WE655.

Thanks for any help.

Your display is a x728 or 768p if you will.

It scales everything regardless of the input resolution to 768p.

Hard to say here, but make sure you try connecting it to the same connections and run the same resolution as your Cable Box is putting out.

The only fair comparison would be the same film on HDM / BD -vs- one of your cable HD movie channels.

Blu-ray usually is better, usually much better than HD Cable, Direct TV HD ect..ect..
