I have Insight Digital Cable in Northern Kentucky. The box they use/provide for HD is the Motorola DCT6412 III. In the setup you have to pick between 1080i and 720P for HD channels.
This makes no sense to me at all, but I am new to this. From what I've read there is no clear answer to which resolution is better then the other, but it seems to be based on fast moving (like basketball or sports) versus slow moving pictures like a drama movie or so forth.
As I understand it some HD channels broadcast in 720P and some in 1080i, so why in the world do I have to pick one or the other on the box? Can it really convert one to the other for display and is that really a good idea? It seems like a screw ball system to me.
Why not have an option to show the resolution in whatever the HD channel is broadcasting it in?
Can someone help me understand this better as I'm new to the world of Digital and HD.
Thanks.
