View Full Version : Whitch is a all in one probe.
Looking at differnt probe's out there and I keep finding things like ths one works well on plasma's and crt but not lcd's or projectors eta eta. What I want to know is which meter can basicly do all types of tv's. Iv'e read that the Spydertv pro 2007 can calibrate all types and has a reporting system. Is this a good option. Im looking into doing this to calibrate my own equipment and other familys equipment which range from crt, plasmas, lcd tv's. Rear pro lcd and rear pro crt, lcd projector, laptops and computer monitors as well as some video editing monitors. If I get any good at this I want to start up a calibration service as I cant find one here (NZ) plus I dont want to have to buy new equipment for differnt applications. Any help would be great.
P.S. I dont have thousands of dollars to spend but dont want the cheepest way out either.
alluringreality 04-03-08, 09:35 AM If you're considering Spyder TV Pro, I would have to think a Display LT colorimeter would generally be more accurate for less money. For about the same money or a little more, the i1pro would generally seem a more accurate choice. See http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=958099 for a comparison between the two colorimeters and the i1pro spectroradiometer. There are also some DTP94 measurements (another under $500 colorimeter) later in the thread.
Gregg Loewen 04-03-08, 10:04 AM im not sure if you can still find a SpyderTVPro2007 kit out there. Personally, I am sold out. I do have a few upgrade kits left (for eligible STVPro users).
If you know how to calibrate I recommend stepping up to a GTM spectro unit (if you are on a budget).
No I dont know how to calibrate YET at the moment Im using dve, THX, and my good old trusty eyecromitter. the reason I started to look at the spydertv pro 2007 is "After the optimisation of your TV, the report tool will create a sophisticated report detailing all the changes that were made to your TV. SpyderTV Pro also gives professional users the ability to customize their reports with the contact information and logo and save their customers display and calibration data for future reference" if there is other software out the that offers the same features as the spydertv pro 2007 package I would love to know. Also the spydertv pro 2007 has the platinum probe which I dont see a lot of comments on every one talks about the spyder2 or 3 or spydertv but not the platinum. This sensor is the same as the one in the Datacolor ColorFacts Professional™ 7. which is twice the price of 2007. I have found a 2007 package online shiped to NZ new for $1250 NZ dollars. but if there is a better option out there with all the same features PLEASE LET ME KNOW. As my wife will kill me if I have to buy even more stuff.
alluringreality 04-03-08, 05:33 PM I don't think there's anything special about the platinum. Using a forum search http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=12810968#post12810968 seems to be basically what I've read about it here. If that's true it's just the same probe that sells for say $60 but tests to a tighter tolerance. For almost $1000 an i1pro would make more sense to me, but of course I'd put probe accuracy over a printout. I still haven't used CalMAN and just play with colorHCFR, but at the very least those programs might be worth looking into because you could probably get a better probe for the same money. Based on a lot of what is discussed in this forum I would have to think something like the CalMAN Bundles would be more accurate than the Spyder Pro for what looks to be somewhat similar prices.
Ok so every one is saying now a eye one pro. but can this calibrate every thing I want as posted above. I had a quick look around the i1pro seems to be for crt and lcd monitors what about plasma rear projection lcd and front projection. will keep having a look around.
derekjsmith 04-03-08, 10:04 PM Here is our CalMAN V3 meter to display support matirx. The i1Pro supports everything.

well at the moment Im getting keen on the i1pro and CalMAN package. Now to convince the wife our displays realy needs doing now rather than later like the budget had planed for. I have been playing with CalMAN v3 in sim mode bit confusing for a novice but I will get there. Love the help files and set by step guides. Would be easyer if I had a probe to play with.
alluringreality 04-04-08, 06:33 PM If you want to just try things out, something like a display LT and HCFR is cheaper for a first time trial. The software could probably benefit from better english documentation, but for free otherwise it's quite the program. I found http://geekwithfamily.com/2006/12/16/home-theater/howto-hcfr-free-video-projector-calibration-software/ helpful for a first time introduction, although the writeup is a little outdated and the current thread is at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=983943 To learn the software it might take more time than something like the SpyderTVPro, but in accuracy I would think that it wouldn't be a step down from your initial consideration.
Thanks for the info have sent SpectraCal a email about info on software and bundle options
scooper750 04-15-08, 11:25 AM Calman / Spectracal has got a great bundle if you're interested in the i1Pro. Do not discount the i1 Display LT. Great colorimeter for the price. A Display LT with Calman V3 would make for a great starter bundle. You can pick up a i1 Display LT for about $140. With Calman V3, you can be in it for about $340. Not bad.
