It is a MASSIVE stretch of the imagination to call the DB8 a multidirectional antenna; only in the mind of some marketing person. Read this http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/DB8.html

If you want a good UHF antenna, the CM4228 referred to in the other post is a better, less expensive 8-bay antenna, with the added advantage of having some decent reception of VHF-hi stations. http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/cm4228.html

There is no "best" anything. Depends on how/where it is being used and what conditions and stations are present.
I have had experiance with this DB8 and I'm not really impressed. Though the matching transformer design is unusual, it is far to easy to overtighten the fittings cracking the circuit board. I can't believe it would be designed this way without any warnings what so ever.
Actually you could remove the 'screen' and make it a figure '8' pattern or reverse one half of the antenna at a cost of gain in both directions.

It's very popular here - a dual-market area with both high VHF and UHF channels in ~180° directions.

More gain than the db8 and half the cost.

The 4228's screens can be easily removedI wouldn't say "easily removed". They are riveted.

There are only small metal tabs holding the screens on. The screens can be removed and replaced in just a few minutes.

Right. The tabs that hold the screens on are easy to bend. I've removed the screens on both a 4228 and 4221 w/o any incident.
