I have a Sanyo Z3, very happy with it. Been thinking of getting a Blu Ray player. Will I see much of a improvement with Blu Ray @ 720P or should I wait till I get a 1080P projector? 720P OTA HD looks better then 480P DVD right now so I guess I could expect the same improvement with 720P Blu Ray?

Yes you will see a great difference from sd to hd for sure,
I have an hd-dvd player and an upscaling player and the difference is very noticable.

It will be a slightly bigger improvement as most blue ray disks should look slightly better than over the air HD.
My OTA HD looks better then my cable Qam feed HD. Guess they compress more?
Picked up a PS3 for 299 with Sony card. 3 blu rays on the way.
Wow, Blu Ray is a nice improvement over DVD even with 720P. Glad I did it. My 6 year old watched the first movie, chicken little from Net Flix. The detail and colors are just stunning on CGI stuff.

I had a Z3 and when i got the ps3 the pic quality was much better than standard dvd, the z3 is very sharp and does a good job at 1080i, i upgraded to a Sony VW-40 which is clearly better for contrast and no more screen door, but the Z3 is still a good workhorse lcd, ive got about 6k hours on mine and only on my second bulb.
We looked at the issue and decided BluRay could wait a couple of years.
Instead we bought a mid-priced Sony standard def player with up conversion capable image processor and HDMI output to our 720p projector.
480p to our projector via component cables just didn't look very good and we thought BluRay was the answer BUT we had a huge investment in our standard def movie collection.
Up converting was the compromise answer for us. 480p via HDMI suddenly became slightly better than OTA TV HD. Even really older films looked near HD quality even stretched to almost 120 inch diagonal.
Suddenly the much bigger projected images became competitive with the images on our 56in 1080p flat screen tv - WOW!
As up converting image processors get better and better it could be that no one need buy into the expensive conversion to BluRay - IMO.

im sorry but the best upconversion looks like crap compared to a quality blu ray, just not the same ball park.
There really is NO comparison between even the best upconverted DVD and decent Blu-ray. Not even close. You really owe it to yourself to try it out. Could I live with SD upconverted? Yes. Does that make it desirable? nope. Not to mention, its not like your DVD's are outdated when you buy a Blu-ray player... It still plays them just fine.

I'm using a Optoma HD72 a 720p DLP.
Blu-Ray is a very noticeable improvement over even my best DVDs upconverted.
I know its been said a million times but get a PS3 and you get a great upconverter and Blu-Ray. For $400 the PS3 was an incredible upgrade to my HT.

I have a Z3 and just bought a PS3 for Blu Ray. It looks awesome with HDMI (required). It's well worth the money. The picture looks razor sharp and the color is unreal.
It's an excellent addition.
Yeah, never really understood upconversion.....don't all 720p displays do this with dvd already? You can't add resolution or bandwidth, just multiply lines. Maybe some sets have poor scalers? My Z3 looks great with blu ray, now I can start pondering the purchase of a Sanyo 2000!
