View Full Version : Why don't Dish/Bell HD receivers do native pass through? Murilo 04-03-08, 04:55 PM I am curious why bell/Dish still do not have a unit out that does pass through, is there any even on the horizon? Scooper 04-03-08, 06:51 PM This is a sort of incomplete question. DO you mean that A) - Echostar DBS receiver's don't have analog pass through ? - In that case - at least on the SD models - you're wrong. Just hit the VIDEO button on your remote. B) - Echostar / Sling Media don't have the TR-40 out yet ? - We know - there's nothing we can do about it, and there is a number of us waiting for this unit to come out. Murilo 04-04-08, 01:34 AM Ummm I mean native video pass through. Like the new directv receiver HR20 I believe has it, Tivo's have it. Motorlola most receivers have it. Some motorola ones for digital cable, and Star choice also have this feature. I think theres a scientific atlantis that also does this. Echostar is the only company I know of that does not offer this, and Im surprised there is not more of an uproar from us videophiles here. When you turn it to a channel the receiver outputs the resolution of the channel. So when watching 720p it outputs it as 720, when turning it to a 1080i channel it outputs it as 1080i. And 480i and so on. On our dish/bell models we have to select one output resolution. allargon 04-04-08, 11:07 AM Echostar is the only company I know of that does not offer this, and Im surprised there is not more of an uproar from us videophiles here. There is. Check out threads on dbstalk, satelliteguys.us, etc. However, many videophiles are angry with Dish's recent lack of new national HD, so that is the least of their problems right now. E.g., I have to watch "Battlestar Galactica" in SD tonight! Ken H 04-04-08, 12:02 PM Topic title edited. AKA 04-04-08, 03:39 PM I think the OP means native resolution passthrough. Dish has acknowledged that some folks have asked for it and have even mentioned that it's on their list of features to implement (it will likely be done via software update, for receivers which would support it). Really, even a native HD/SD passthrough option would be a start, and enough to satisfy quite a few of the folks looking for the feature. |
