Hello all,
I´m using my 360 via HDMI, i want to know which black level setting i should use Expanded or Standard?

what are the differences between the two?

From what i know Expanded use the range 0-255 while standard use 16-235 (like movies)

Are you using a monitor or a TV? If you're using a TV, use Standard. The Expanded color range is for PC monitors.

I heard expanded was only for 480P

I asked this same question in the projector forum since i own a panny AE900.eventually you will always have to go by eye but i wanted to know for a fact wether the panny supported the deeper color range or not.

sadly i did not get 1 reply to the question.

I use expanded with my HP2307w monitor and it is 1080p, has nothing to do with 480p.

It has nothing to do with 480p , that´s for sure.

usually 0-255 are PC ranges while Movies are done on 16-235.

te question is.. what about xbox360 games? :)

What i notice is my TV has to have brightness really low when i set up on standard. i mean like 25 to 30...

while on expanded i need to go to 55-65 levels

maybe this helps for something.

put it on the one that looks the best to you.

from my understanding, only VGA users get real benefit from these settings.

It is hard to say really since every monitor is different. This is one of those things that is going to come down to personal preference. Most people only suggest using expanded when they are connecting via VGA to help combat some wash-out issues with some monitors. Again every monitor is different so I would just try it both ways and see which one looks better to you.

actually this is one of the reason why i´m posting. Since i can calibrate my tv for those settings, do i see any difference between 16-235 calibrated and 0-255 calibrated?
do both picture will look the same after calibration?
