InFocus has offered me an IN24 for $229 as a replacement for my X1, which developed the color wheel buzz defect (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13551844#post13551844) while in the last months of its Extended Service Plan.

I don't know much about the IN24.

Opinions?

Extended service plan? Shouldn't they be offering this to you for free?

The X1 probably has a better scaler in it, so SD will look better. But the IN24 is brighter.

Tell them to fix the X1. If they won't, ask for an IN72. For free.

Jim

The above assumes your using this projector for movies and not business presentations. If you are using it for business, then the IN24 is probably a better projector.

I guess I'll never be getting an extended warranty from Infocus. Strange that there is not an option offered to you that doesn't involve more cost. Just what did the warranty cover?

BuffaloJim's advice sounds like your best approach. Good luck.

The fine print on the warranty says it's for labor only, not parts. From what I've read in the voluminous X1 color wheel buzz repairs thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=485111), the defective color wheel just by itself can't be changed, only the entire optical engine for some outrageous price (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=5360316#post5360316), but it's all a moot point anyways because even though my X1 was still within the warranty period, InFocus informed me that they simply no longer service that model.

Don't get me started about infocus. Last night I ordered a refurb X2 off their site for under 300 which would be a great deal for presentations, along with a $60 next day shipping fee, and a $50 extended lamp warrantee. They called me back today to tell me that they did not have it in stock, but said they have a refurb in24+ (for about 90 more). Even though I realized I had just been suckered by a bait and switch scam I agreed. I just got an email that said "Part" of my order has been shipped and will arrive by 10:30 tomorrow- according to the email- the warantee has been "shipped" via their $60 next day service. The projector order has merely been "entered".

I paid a $60 next day shipping fee so I can have a warantee card tomorrow? I'm a teacher- school starts after labor day. I am supposed to go into that classroom and wow the students by hooking up my laptop to a warantee card? Maybe there will be a projector in that box tomorrow- infocus couldn't be that stupid, but if they are I will be extremely upset.

Infocus started me in PJ Home Theater with their X1 (Still using it in my audio/video editing room) but I would never buy from them again because of all the horror stories I've read about them. Too bad.

I did end up getting an IN24 for the $229 in the spring after months of InFocus wanking around. I also feel like a victim of bait and switch for an X1 which was supposed to still be under warranty. I would have grave reservations about buying anything from them again.

That said, so far the IN24 has been pretty good, with perhaps slightly less sharpness than my X1, but more brightness. In fact, and I never thought I'd be someone to do this, I run it in econo mode and it's plenty bright enough. That is a pleasant surprise and will also probably extend lamp life.

Update- the lamp warranty arrived today, but no projector. (The warranty was ordered with the nonexistent projector advertised on their website)-when they "backordered" the X2 (which was canceled because it didn't exist)-they shipped the warranty and took my $60 for next-day shipping. The IN24+ which was put into the order after 1:00, will be shipped today and should arrive Tuesday (while I am at work requiring a few days of "tag" with UPS). Whether or not it really does arrive remains to be seen.

I was really hoping to practice and play with my projector over my 4 day weekend while getting my lesson plans together, and have it ready for the first day of classes.

It's a math class- maybe my first lesson will be on ripoffs. You need to learn math so you won't be cheated. Don't be as dumb as your teacher.
