Hello. I would like to move all of my A/V equipment (except the dvd player) into the basement below my entertainment room since I have the TV on the wall. A couple of years back I bought a pair of Jensen wireless remote extenders, but those things really suck. I'm looking for a cheap solution, even wired, to get the IR remote(s) to work. The equipment would be located directly below the TV in the crawl space, no more than 15' away from the TV.

I was considering buying the Harmony 890 with the RF adapter (although not the cheap route), but am not sure if the RF capability will work any better than the old Jensen' I have. This would also get rid of my multiple remote problem.

Advice?

I've got the following IR hardware that I no longer need and would work for you, I actually used it for exactly the same thing as you:

-Buffalo IR-100 Signal Amplified & Flasher Output Regulated Single Zone Connecting Block
-Buffalo IR-350 High Performance Easy Connect 1/2" Tube IR Repeater *
-Buffalo IR-E1 Tiny Stick-on IR Flasher with Signal Confirmation LED
-Buffalo DV9-500 9Vdc 500mA Power Supply

This is a complete system ready to go, all you need is a little bit of wire (Cat5 will work, as will any small gauge 3+ conductor wire). I have (1) IR-E1 flasher (good for one component), but the connecting block can take up to (4) and they only cost about $4 each.

I tried an IR extender (Hot Link Pro) and my plasma put out too much IR noise for it to work effectively. I then switched to a Harmony 890 and it works great for my situation. The good thing about going RF is that you don't need to point the remote at anything. Also in your case going with the 890 you can set your DVD player to be controlled by the remote's IR output and the rest of your hidden components controlled by the RF extender.

I had a problem with that too until I asked here. It turns out that one or two little tiny pieces of masking tape over the center of the eye will completely block out any of that interference. I only got the interference when the eye was behind the plasma, when the eye is install somewhere else away from the plasma it's fine on it's own.
