I have a Samsung HLS-5686W purchased just about 1 year ago. The past 2 days my TV has decided to turn off randomly all by itself. When it turns off the first time I turn it back on and a couple minutes later it turns off by itself again. The first night this happened, I turned the TV back on about 30 minutes after it shut itself off the 2nd time and I was able to watch TV for about 1.5 hrs before I went to bed so I thought the problem was fixed. Then the next night we turned on the TV and in less than 1 hr the same thing happened. TV turned off, we turned it back on, couple minutes later it turned off again.

Each time the TV turns itself off the green "Lamp" light flashes about 3 times and stops. I have not yet had a bulb burn out so I am unsure exactly how the TV responds and if this means my bulb is going bad. But I can still turn the TV on after letting it sit for a while and I dont' notice any less brightness in the picture or anything so I am unsure if it is the bulb. The TV is only 1 year old and I have 2,614 hrs logged on it. I know the bulbs are supposed to be rated for 5k-8k viewing hours so this is very premature if my bulb is burning out.

Also, I don't think this is the problem but I wanted to mention it because maybe it is just the biggest coincidence in the world. I bought a $30 HDMI cable from Fry's when I bought my new Onkyo 705 receiver to go from the receiver to the TV. I just recently picked up a $5.77 cheapo OEM HDMI cable from Fry's so I could return the $30 one. The TV didn't start turning itself off until just AFTER I installed the new cheapo HDMI cable. Is there any possibility that the cable could be bad and when in the middle of transferring the signal if there is a handshake issue or drop out in signal my TV would throw itself into standby mode? When I get home tonight I'll re-connect the more expensive HDMI cable and see if the problem persists, but wanted to ask if anyone has heard of this being a problem before.

Lastly, I have read other people saying to check the rear lamp door because if it isn't in all the way there is that lever that will keep the Tv from burning on. I guess I'll check that when I get home tonight but I haven't touched it and the fact that I can still turn the TV back on after it turns off makes me think that isn't the problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
