Like most I have done tons of research on DLP's and settled on the Samsung 6187 s 61" LED, payed for it yesterday at Sears as it was the last one in a box. It was raining yesterday so I have not picked it up yet. While surfing on this great site I came across a few threads talking about potential HDMI problems with Samsung and Verizon.

I called the Verizon fios tech support, and they said they are aware of it and they can make come adjestments with the box or if I used video comp cables I will be able to get all HiDef channels fine. If I buy quality video comp cables with the picture be good in 1080 hi def?

Anyone have this situation? If so what was the outcome. Not sure if I should go back to Sears and get my moneyback and keep looking.

Thanks in advance!

I was using my Scientific Atlantic DVR with compoent cables for a bit while I tested "upscaling" on my onky 605 for SD channels, and I've seen HD DVD being transmitted via component cables as well at 1080i (I'm guessing FiOS is 1080i like everyone else). The picture looks fine, I do think you get slightly better color reproduction off of HDMI but not enough that I'll swear to that.

Are you with FIOS and Samsung?

I have three Sammy HD tvs with FIOS HD boxes. One DLP and two LEDs. Component provides excellent picture quality on all of them. At one time I had HDMI on the DLP and it worked fine as well, but I personally prefer the picture provided by component cables more. Also with component cables, you can attach the red, green, blue cables to the tv. And then get an optical cable to run straight from the FIOS box to your receiver for surround sound. FIOS should give you the necessary cables free, at least they used to.

So don't get your money back, use component, it's fine.

Nope, but I thought you might appricate comments about comparing Component v. HDMI quality since that is one of the options you mentioned... It could be I'm wrong though so whatever.

thanks for the info, I will probably pick the tv up tonight, verizon is out of the HD boxes for another month so I won't find out for a while.
