All,

I hope this is the right forum for my question.

I am moving to a new house and I am planning to set up OTA.
I will buy new TV with ATSC for that and CM4221 antenna.

Could somebody explain to me how to make channel guide work?
Does it vary from TV to TV?
Is it automagic?

I am looking at Sammy 5054 or Panny 50PX75U. Either one of these better than the other for that?

thanks

The channel guide for ATSC-only setups generally comes from each station. The information is transmitted in the same digital stream as everything else. Your TV captures that and integrates it into its guide functions. In markets where it's properly implemented by each broadcaster, it's a wonderful thing. In some cities, you end up with guide displays that say "regular programming" for one or two particular channels a lot of the time. You can check your local thread to see how well the PSIP guide data is implemented in your area.

There's only three options for guides I know of, for OTA only tv:

1 websites like Titantv.
2 The tvgiide thing that used to be gemstar, broadcast on some local channels.
3 the guide that each station is supposed to send out.

1 is ideal if you get a tuner in your computer, so you can record as well as watch.

For 2 you need a tv or tuner that does it. My LG tuners have this.

For 3 you need to check if your local stations do guide data. In Boston area some do and others don't. Then you need to see if the tv/tuner saves enough and gets data fairly transparently: Some just go dead for minutes at a time trying to get data. Some can store a week of data. Others just show the current show and channel and maybe the next show on that channel.

My new Samsung does guide data pretty good compared to my older version, but there are still annoying delays.
