Tonight at 9pm
Really looking forward to this one of the best Bond films in years. And since it's on Showtime it should be OAR. Sweet.

Oh well, turns out Showtime isn't showing it in OAR after all. Still good looking HD though.

Open Matte super-35. I am surprised they're showing it non OAR on showtime. I thought that was the difference between showtime and HBO. Anyone own the Blu-ray-disk, for comparison? It does look good.
I saw it recently on Blu-ray and I was very impressed. It's a shame that Showtime is showing it non OAR.

I'm assuming this one like most Sony pictures did its premium movie channel debut on Starz. Was it OAR on Starz or open matte as well.
It was open matte on HD PPV last spring.

Ok, after reading a bit it looks like open matte super-35 shows just about the same as OAR. Not a bad compremise. The movie looked quite good this eve.

Usually, open matte, the image is the same width as OAR, just more "height". Presumably, since Casino Royale was Digital Intermediate, they used the same intermediate as the blu-ray disk. Is this the future? More 2.35:1 movies are S35 than A35 thesee days. The theatrical print for S35 movies is 2.35:1 done via DI, because that is the highest quality, using an anamorphic theatrical print, rather than a 1.85 flat theatrical print. But open matte 16:9 for HDTV, with the blu-ray disk perhaps being 2.35:1 or open matte 16:9?

Did not watch the film for very long.

yea but its probably going to be in 1.78:1 even though it was shot in 1.35:1
I hate when movie channels do this

Still my most favorite Bond movie yet, can't wait for the sequel later this year :)

I doubt it was shot in 1:35:1. That would be just barely wider than 4:3 or 1.33... :D

This may be slightly off-topic, but do Blu-Ray releases ever give you the option of viewing a movie at OAR or 16:9?

No option, as far as I can tell they are always shown as they were filmed......1.85:1, 2.35:1, etc.

Did anyone watch it on D* ch. 71? I missed it but was wondering if it was the same low bit rate MPEG-2 that SHO has always had on D*.
