Yeah... my old TV is dead, and it isn't worth repairing anymore, so we're getting a new Plasma! We'd like one that is 50". Are there any good choices in this range? I've been looking at the panasonic px80.. I'm seeing some problems though. Any recommendations?
also, preferably a tv that is purchasable at best buy :o

If you have a Tweeter around your area, you may want to consider the Pioneer PRO-1150HD. Also, there may be some local home theater stores in your area offering the 1150 at the same price as Tweeter. Also, check out some of the sponsors on this forum, they have been known to offer very competitive prices.

What problems are you seeing with the PX80? I would recommend also keeping an eye out for the Pioneer 5080. BB has had them pretty close to your price range recently.

You mentioned BB, I would go there and walk around the displays, see what looks good to you, and come back here and do a little reading up on that specific model. What looks good to me may not look good to you. Also, what is your viewing situation? A lot of windows or a dedicated HT room? That being said, the Pio 5080 is something to hunt around for, and I am a fan of Panny's PZ models if your room has a lot of ambient light.

5080 if you can still find them. Panasonic TH-50PF10UK is also a good choice to consider. TH-50PZ80U or TH-50PZ85U as well. Good luck!

If you can stretch your budget a little, I'd say go with the Pioneer 1150.

That was my budget too when shopping for plasmas. I looked at a lot of TVs in that price range (Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung plasmas, Sony and Samsung LCDs). I went shopping with a friend and some family members, and we all agreed the best for that price was the Pioneer 5080. Managed to get it just under the budget you mentioned.

Haven't had a chance to look at Panasonic's new plasmas, but you might want to give those a try as well. They're rumored to have better blacks and brightness than the old models.
