I love films and gaming and it just so happens that Im waiting to take the plunge and buy a 50'' HDTV. Plasma is my preferred option and the new PZ800 is probably the one I'll decide on (as along with many others, my resources won't quite run to the Pioneer). Whilst surfing the usual sites, this series caught my eye and I was wondering what people think of the concept of actually buying a 3-D panel.

It would make gaming more interesting I think, and 3-D films quite fun. Would the set have to be permanently on 3-D (surely not) and does anyone have any more information as to the PQ of the Samsung PAVV 450. 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio sounds a ridiculous claim.

Apparently it's out in Korea and set for a U.S. launch imminently. Other links give an indication of a price of around $3000 and up, depending on the size. I'm in Europe, so not sure when it'll end up here.

The first links refer to the Plasma, the second to an even newer LCD range.

This is the 450 Plasma http://www.techshout.com/hardware/2008/29/samsung-pavv-cannes-450-3d-plasma-hdtv-unveiled/

This is the 650 LCD http://www.techshout.com/hardware/2008/07/samsung-unveils-pavv-650-hdtv-series/

Any thoughts on this would be interesting and helpful to hear.

I just got my first look at a 450 today and it looked absolutely great. In fact it looked better than the 1080P higher level Samsung and the 50" Pioneer 1080P next to it. Now I'm pretty sure with some minor setting adjustments the other sets would probably look better, but what I am saying is with the 450 sets you really can't go wrong.

The links went down so I've corrected them now. Hoping for a little more help on these panels. Any of you guys have them already? Are they all 720p or are they available in 1080p also?

I think I'm just confused about this whole 3-D claim, I mean you have to wear glasses to get this effect right? Is it another fad or is this the way we're headed now do you think?

Any opinions appreciated

Dan
