i hav been reading and reading searching the best deals and am i gonna make the right choice.. i mainly will be watching Tv,movies etc on this screen. i sit about 10-12 feet from the tv now...is there anything else out there i should be looking at maybe getting also. i do want a flat screen tv. 50 inches is what i think would be best for my distance of 10-12 feet:)

I would be looking at the Elite 1150 at that distance.

1150HD as mentioned above depending on budget. Also take a look at the TH-50PF10UK that is a Panasonic pro. Plus you can look at Panny TH-50PZ80U/85U. The 5010FD is obviously a good choice :)

funny thing is i was just reading something else saying the 1150 has more settings to dial it in. price dont really matter i can get the tv at dealer cost. so i am not worried about that.. just want to make sure i will be happy with the picture quality. i dont want to buy something and say dammit..

i know the PDP-5010FD retails for 5k and the Elite 1150HD retals for 3500.00 well i might to be able to get 2 1150hd's HMMMM

I don't really know what the 5010 retails for, but the 1150 retails for a little bit more than the pre-super bowl sales on the 5080. That would be the way to go IMO
edit:Nevermind. Didnt catch the dealers cost.

the 5010 is a great choice (i have one, as in my living room depending on seating, viewing distance can be anywhere between 4 and 12ft) .. but if you're always going to be viewing from that distance (10-12ft) then an elite 1150 may be better as you probably will not notice the extra detail 1080p provides.

the distance i posted is the distance to where the tv is now to the couch. so like you said if someone sits or lays on the floor this distance can be much shorter of course.. from wall to wall its 13feet or so.. from where my tv is now its about 10 feet from the couch. again this distance like you said can be much shorter depending where you are sitting.

this is what is making it hard to choose.

Get the 5010 and have the peace of mind that its 1080p. Even if you cant tell from your seating distance your conscience will know.....

I would first grab your tape measure and get accurate measurements of the distance between your most common viewing location and the center of where the plasma display will be.

Then take your tape measure and go to a store that has both the 1150 and the 5010. Determine the distance where you first begin to detect individual pixels with the 1150. If this distance is at least a foot less than your viewing distance, than you probably won't benefit from the added resolution of the 5010 - at that distance.

Beginning at around 7-8' most people really aren't able to distinguish between a 768p and a 1080p picture. However, if you are one of the eagle-eyed exceptions - or if you commonly lie on the floor much closer to the display than your couch viewing distance - you may well see a significant enough difference to go with the 5010's increased resolution.

My 5010 is in my bedroom, so depending on where I sit, 1080p is a definite must. Also, 1080p offers no jaggies, colors are solid, and the extra fine detail from 1080p source is visible where as it is lost in the downscale to 768p for the 1150/5080.

But then your conscience will be telling you that your colors aren't dialed in, and you don't have pure mode.

If you can wait til June/July, I'd wait for the 5020. The MSRP may be about the same price as what you can get a 5010 for now. That's just me though :).

at 10-12' from a 50", 1080p really provides no benefit for the vast majority of people. the elite 1150 will provide more useful features at a significant cost savings.

a nagging conscience needs to drown out the marketing hype. :p

what would the 5020 have that the 5010 doesnt have?

I hope you don't really believe this?

OP--at your seating distance the 1150 would be more suited, but since you can afford the 5010 and seem to be able to get it for a great price that may be the way to go...you never know you might sit closer for some reason at some point in the future.

Have you had both in your home, or are you just saying that as your opinion?
I can tell you that my 1150's colors are spot on and rich as can be. No uniformity issues 'at all'.
