Hi Everyone, I have an infocus IN 72 projector and am playing my 360 through component. My question is this: If I buy the HDMI adapter that has come out ($60) will it improve my picture even though the IN 72 will have to scale the image? The IN 72 is 480p, not 720 so I know it won't do HD. I just know that HDMI is a digital signal vs. analog (component) so it should be a higher quality, but I'm not sure what you lose when you let the projector downscale. I'm assuming since HDMI is "high def media interface" that it automatically switches my 360 to hi-def. Any help is appreciated. BTW, I'm fine with component, I just want to squeeze every ounce of quality out of my projector.

i dont think so, that adapter is still taking an analog signal from the 360, and just converting it to digital.

If you're really interested in getting every last tiny bit of quality, you might try using the VGA cables. That'll let you set the 360 to the projector's native resolution, which will bypass the projector's scaler.

Thank you for the responses. I would use the VGA, but my infocus doesn't have that connection..DVI, HDMI, Component, composite only. Looks like I'll stick with component.

I'm pretty sure the In72 will take VGA through M1 (which is a non-standard VGA/DVI connection). I had a 4805 and it just needed an adpater cable which was inexpensive on monoprice.

yea, that dvi should be analog compatible, if i remember right, you can run VGA like chrisherbert said, to a dvi adapter.
just like my old pc only put out dvi, but i was still connected to my monitor via VGA.
