DirecTV is promoting its exclusive 4 channels of Masters coverage to begin 4/10. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4550060 It is also saying that "its exclusive Masters Experience channels and interactive features" will all be available in High Definition. My question is, will I need the 5 LNB dish and new receivers to get these channels? I haven't gone through the upgrade yet. From the photo, it looks like the channel numbers are 707-710.

These channels are not showing up in my guide yet. Does that mean that I will be unable to receive them starting Thursday?

The HD channels are 706-710. They've been showing up in my guide since Monday morning.

If you are using a "favorites" list you may have to add them manually.

Pretty sure, yse you will need a 5LNB dish and a new receiver as the content is in HD. Can't wait. I think I might be feeling sick and need to stay home...*cough cough*

The channels showed up in my Guide yesterday. Actually, I think there are 7 of them, a "MIX" channel and 3 in SD and 3 HD. However, I guess I will not know if I can actually get the HD channels until Thursday morning. I'm going to clear my calendar at work, just in case I need to stay home.

These mix channels are showing up in the guides for my mpeg2 and mpeg4 receivers.

Are these channels on all day or just during the broadcast hours (4pm - 7pm)?

I have to believe that if they show up on my guide and I can get a picture on those channels, that I will be able to receive them with my 3 LNB system. I can't even "see" the new channels from the 5 LNB system, including MLB HD etc on my guide.

701 thru 710 are showing on my guide right now - with a "Masters Experience" spalsh screen.

The guide shows that is the only time the channels are active. Even the "Highlight" channel is only active during that time and it starts on Friday afternoon.

If you have an interactive receiver it appears you can get stats and highlights on demand anytime you want. I don't have a receiver capalble of that so I'm not sure how that will work.

I just saw this on the D* Masters info web site - hope it's wrong, but sure it is not. Don't know why I would see the HD channels on my MPEG2 receivers if they are going to shut them off at 4PM

*To access DIRECTV HD programming, HD Access fee ($9.99/mo.), a 5-LNB Multi-Satellite Dish, along with DIRECTV HD Receiver (H20, H21, HR20, HR21), HD television equipment and a qualifying programming package are required.

I'm working the hole 15/16 feed for D*/Internet. We go on the Internet for CBS.com at approx 12:00et. D* doesn't go live until 4pm et. You can expect the Internet feed to come up for Amen Corner and 15/16 when golf hits those holes.

Many of those channels will be based around the Interactive content so you'll need a modern receiver that has Interactive capabilities to really experience it. In other worlds no Tivos.

I'm sure they are just teasing me. Channel 706 in MPEG2 - the HD Mix channel is up and showing a leaderboard and the 4 screen split screen HD channels, but no action on the screens yet. Amen Corner is supposed to go live at 2:00 CDT according to the guide.

The online coverage is just awful on either CBS.com or Masters.org. No matter which feed you select (Amen Corner, 15, 16, or Live Bonus) the video lags the sound by several minutes. I tried this on several PC's in the house and regardless of the line speed on my DSL link, the results were equally frustrating amm all of my computers. I would rather track the leaders on the Versus/Golf channel and forego the out of synch video on the internet. I am sure this is a function of the heavy traffic but I will not be using the internet feeds on Friday.

Online coverage is perfectly fine and synced up for me (via Masters.org.)

Is the ESPN feed on D* 707 true MPEG4 or a remap of 206?
The Amen Corner feed looks great.

I'm not the biggest golf fan, but this is pretty slick. Much better than the NASCAR driver channel stuff.

I'm getting the feeds with my 3 LNB MPEG2 receiver so they are remapping 73 and it is in HD. All 4 feeds look pretty good.

Holy crap. D* missed a tremendous opportunity here. This is an AWESOME FREE feature and I didn't even know about it until about 10 minutes ago -- and I follow this crap pretty closely. If I had been them, I'd have innundated ESPN with commercials and my subscriber base with "announcements". I mean, for pete's sake, I've gotten TWO "announcements" about not being able to record PPV in advance and not one thing about this.

Anyway, this is cool.

--MavI found out about it from a fold-out ad in Sports Illustrated and via the weekly DirecTV e-mail.

I remember how we used to manufacture our own multi-screen back in the day when Don Criqui hosted CBS-HD's Amen Corner coverage while CBS analog carried the usual Jim Nantz coverage. (of course, you had to have a CBS affiliate that was on the ball and not many were) Good to see that kind of split coverage returning. I was also afraid it wouldn't be MPEG-2, but it is.

PS: Edited the title a little bit

I hate how the channels just go off air at 6:00 (central) or whatever time the broadcast is scheduled to end even if the round is still in progress. I was watching on 707 and the broadcast just ended so I had to switch over to CBS to watch.

I didn't get to waqtch Thursday and Friday, so I don't know if this was CBS specific or not...ever year, why does it seem that the announcer voices are so quiet and the crowd noises (particularly clapping) are SOOOO loud. I have to sit there with the remote turning the volume up and down. Irritates the hell out of me.

Ditto. I think CBS was trying to establish the sense of "being there" by having the audio sent to the surrounds set real high and having the audio sent to the center channel set real low -- lots of emphasis on the wind rustling through the trees and the sound of the club striking the ball and the announcers more or less whispering. Nice idea, but I found it ridiculously irritating. i just turned up my center channel.
