Hey, is this the first EVER 7.1ch music album released, like in the world? :)
I don't even have full-range surround backs yet! () actually, my surrounds aren't either. I know, shame on me.

This is very similar to the putative forthcoming Rachmaninov 2 & 3 (see the thread in Blu-ray software forum) by the same companies: just a re-release of the same in SACD (http://www.amazon.com/Grieg-Concerto-Symphonic-Dances-Hybrid/dp/B0001ZA3DI) and DVD-A (http://www.amazon.com/Grieg-Piano-Concerto-Symphonic-Dances/dp/B0001ZA3CO)previously released in 2004 on Naxos, now with an up-mix of 5.1 to 7.1. Not a big deal really.

Edit 1: Fixed links.

Edit 2: These initial batch of Naxos re-releases are not only up-mixed but some (including the Greg, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov discs) were originally recorded and mastered in 48kHz 24-bit so they are upsampled to 96kHz for the BD. (You can go to Naxos' website and check on their DVD-A listings. There are graphics of the back of the DVD-A showing the recording info.) It doesn't exactly admit this on the BD. What a marketing scam! Caveat emptor!

Possibly. I believe that the HD DVD of Vivaldi's Four Seasons is 7.1. However, I don't think it's audio only.

It's hard to know how to define wht's "audio only" these days. My definition is that if it can be played *exactly* like a CD, straight in the player and sound comes out (regardless of what video stuff it has), it can be called that. But not every DVD-Audio, it seems, falls into that category, which I'm rather annoyed at.

The linked article mentions BD profile 3.0 (audio only), but makes it clear that this particular title is not a v3 disc (it's standard Blu-ray, just with limited video content).

Hi,

Yes, it has 7.1 DTS-HD MA and a video slide showing pretty pictures.

DTSHD-MA is a force to be reckoned with. At 28MBit/s and 192kHz/24bit it is a very capable format. I would definitely start collecting, would you folks agree that it is very close to uncompressed music based on your listening experiences with BD movies ?

how different can it be from Dolby TrueHD - seeing as both are lossless compression formats?

5.1 192/24 uncompressed LPCM is 27.6Mbps. So how is DTS-HD Master compressed to a larger file? Also DTS-HD Master and TrueHD are not just "very close" to the LPCM master but after decoding are in fact (not open to a subjective opinion) bit for bit identical.;)

7.1 ?

7.1 ?

7.1 192/24 is 37Mbps for LPCM. DTS-HD Master and TrueHD would do a better job than only compressing to 28Mbps (even at peek).;)

EDIT: Looks like 24.5Mbps is DTS-HD Master's BD max rate (not 28Mbps) and this would only be to cover any peek value.

If your looking for a great BD with multichannel try Chris Botti: Live.

It is one of the absolute best sounding discs I have and a steal at 14.99 through Amazon.

PCM uncompressed.

I guess you're pretty much paying ($4) for one track the Shostakovich Quintet Op 57 from AIX record in Dolby TrueHD but it could be worth it if you get free shipping from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s******nb_ss_d?url=search-alias%3Dblu-ray&field-keywords=hd+sampler
