When you sign up with Dish you have to agree to a 24 month subscription. When that 24 month period is over is there anything you can do to get the deals that all the new subscribers are getting(free movie channels, $10 off your bill each month, etc)? I guess you could call and cancel, then sign back up again? Anyone ever tried this to save some money or get some free channels? Mine is up in August. The other day I bought a new cell phone and got a good deal on the phone and a different package because my original contract had expired so I signed up for another 2 years and got a new phone at a good price and a better package. I thought maybe Dish (or Direct) would work in this same way. Anyone? Did a search for something like this and found nothing.

I think that you have to be out for at least six months to a year before you can come back as a new customer and get those deals. The only plus to them would be that the installation would go quickly since you already have the Dish on your roof. Still most of those new deals are just meant to get new customers in the door so there is the chance they may just tell you to go pound sand. They figure that they already spent their couple hundred dollars on you the first time they gave you "new customer" freebies.

The one trick is to get your wife to sign up the 2nd time instead of you.

When I called to get the $29.99 HD only deal after cancelling three months before, the CS guy I spoke with asked me if I could link a different phone number to the account. I said "Sure," and gave it to him but when he came back he said, "Don't worry about it, I got you hooked up with your original number." I do have a new account number and my old account is still out there in non active status.

Well you can switch to DirecTV for a while. This will et you compare the PQ of the two services and allow you to get in on the promotional deals of DirecTV.

Just play the "I've been a loyal subscriber for xx years" card. I did that back in January after I switched to the HD pack. I called because I saw that new subscribers got HBO/CMAX for 3months for free, so I called and complained, and they gave it to me, no problem.

I said, I've been w/ Dish for 4 years, what have you done for me lately?

I do the same thing w/ my cell phone acct. These companies do whatever they can to reel in the new subs, but then forget about you once they start gettin' your money. Gotta remind them every now and then who actually keep them in business!!
