I've heard that the digital converter box can work with analog cable (plug analog cable coax into the converter box then connect from converter box to non-digital TV). Is this true?

Is this true? False Can a CECB be used with cable? No - only over-the-air antenna (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1016133). RCbridge 04-08-08, 07:31 AM I've heard that the digital converter box can work with analog cable (plug analog cable coax into the converter box then connect from converter box to non-digital TV). Is this true? For the analog channels only: If the DCB has an rf pass through you actually can plug the cable feed into it, leave the DCB turned off and use the TV tuner as normal. You would need to have an A/B switch or physically swap the cable for OTA signals with the DCB turned on! (leaving the TV on channel 2 or 3 or using the composite input). wajo 04-08-08, 11:40 AM Anyone who already has a DVD recorder with digital ATSC tuner doesn't need a converter box on the TV the recorder is attached to, but some might not have thought of using that digital DVDR as a soiurce to feed digital WS to their OLDER ANALOG DVDRs. You can attach a converter box to those analog DVDRs, of course, but their limited capabilities might not be acceptable to some. Anyone with analog DVDRs might be interested in this thread (?), (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1016350)where I tested my analog Pio 640 in rec digital WS programs thru my Philips DVDR3575H/37, which has NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners. This gives you RF passthru and S-Video output not available in most converter boxes, as well as use of your existing remotes rather than adding a new one. seatacboy 04-08-08, 03:18 PM For the analog channels only: If the DCB has an rf pass through you actually can plug the cable feed into it, leave the DCB turned off and use the TV tuner as normal......You would need to have an A/B switch or physically swap the cable for OTA signals with the DCB turned on! Because the U.S. Government $40 coupon subsidy is intended solely to address over-the-air TV reception, CECBs cannot tune DTV from cable TV feeds. CECBs can only tune ATSC signals from over-the-air TV. It's extremely rare for any cable TV system to retransmit ATSC. Most cablecos transmit digital content in QAM, not ATSC. A tiny number of small cable systems carry ATSC, but for practical purposes, the answer is NO. |
