I was at Toys R Us on Sunday, and they had the official Microsoft VGA cable for $9.99. I think it's original price was $39.99. I picked up one up. Probably should have bought an extra.

I'm in Northern California, so I don't know if this pricing is regional or nationwide. YMMV:)

Good deal for anyone looking to hook up to a computer monitor.

In my opinion the PQ over component actually looks better than the VGA on a TV set, even though MS advertises it as being better quality. The picture looks a little grainy and washed out.

Just any FYI for everyone. Still for $10 it might be worth trying on your setup.

Yeah, on your set. Each set treats the different inputs differently. For example, color is almost exactly the same between component and VGA on my set, but VGA pixel maps perfectly. In my case VGA looks better, on my set.

Damn. I picked up a VGA cable about a week ago for $30, and I thought that was a deal. Figures there'd be an even better deal after I buy one.

As far as the quality, it varies as others have said. On my projector, it just doesn't look all that great. It looks absolutely stunning on my monitor though.

monoprice has had these for $9+ for a while. It comes out to about $13 with shipping http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083005&p_id=4010&seq=1&format=2
Not OEM but as good or better performance.

their original design was better though, because the connector was small enough to let you use an HDMI cable with it, if you wanted to use the VGA cable with an HDMI cable for digital audio. the newer one is thicker though, and pretty much looks like MS cable without the MS logo, so that doesn't work with newer design unless you remove the plastic from the connector like you would your component cable connector...

Can confirm suburban Ohio:
MS VGA cable $9.98 and the MS Component cable, also $9.98.
Might be useful to somebody looking to cook up a dongle replacement...

I asked the guy to scan the item for the price. I guess it was on further clearance because it said "Was $9.98, Now $7.98"

man, don't get cranky; I was just stating my experience. That is all, hence the "In my opinion" opening sentence. Just for reference, I get the same results on a 46U Aquos & a 36" Westinghouse.

Also, I did say, still a deal for $10

The way you made your statement implied that VGA will be worse on all TVs, and you even went so far as to state that Microsoft is lying about the quality of their VGA output. This is of course completely untrue. As such, I made sure to clean up your statement, making sure that it was known that your experience was specific to your TV, not to all TVs as you implied.

So yeah, I get cranky when people come in here and make blatantly false claims and try to pass them off as pure fact.
