Has anyone tried this thing out, I was looking at it at BB and researched a little on their site. So far it looks like a winner, dl and archived HDM 2 USB's for future storage, and it's mobile. 2.0 mbp's recommended but not needed due to their buffers on their end if anybody has this unit please give me some feed back, for 295.00 I may just go buy it try it and see where it goes from there. They claim 1080i/1080p streams with full sound bit streaming and no more Netflix or HV just sit on your a$$ and start streaming for 3.99 rentals.

Nothing comes up when I searched so if it's already posted I apologize.

A Xbox 360 and XBL VOD is a much better deal and has better quality.

I have the Vudu and it works as advertised. That said I am not sure I would pay for the box, I got mine for free in the beta program.

Thanks for the feed back I went to their site and tested my connection, I'm above 2945 mbps and fine for SD stuff. How much of a delay are we talking about for HD content?

After researching this site and Vudu it looks like you get better sound at 640 kbps and 1080p/24 streaming. Anybody break open their box and see what kind of hard drive is in there. What OS are they running, I assume Linux based but I would also like to use a 1TB drive if it's swappable. 294.00 is a grip for VOD hardware, but not overly priced imo.

Nimo - I've had a Vudu for several weeks now, and I have been very pleased. You can find my comments and thoughts in the AppleTV vs Vudu thread located at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1009754.

For information on internal components, have a look at the Vudu HD STB teardown at http://streamcentric.com/blog/?p=3. Based on their info, it uses a 7200RPM SATA drive. You could always try replacing it with something bigger, but I'm willing to bet there would be some rough spots along the way (drive encrypted, etc.). I wouldn't advise trying it unless you really know what you are doing.

I'm afraid I must take the other side of the comment from JamesDax on the XBox being a better deal with better quality. I own both the Vudu and the XBox360 and the Vudu is my choice for movie rentals every time.

When I purchased mine, they were running a 30 day trial (if you didn't like it, just pay to return it, and they would refund the purchase price). If they are still doing that, I think you should order one and give it a try. If you don't like it, just send it back and go a different route.

When we got Vudu, my wife was more pleased with it than any other "toy" I had purchased. We point, click and watch high-definition movies on our large (110+ inch screen) on-demand in "real time" (real time = by pre-staging/pre-fetching). We pump the Vudu signal into a RadianceXD and that feeds our JVC RS1. Very very nice crisp picture, even for the SD material. We have cable modem with a 4.7MPS DL. For PQ, we have no problems at all except with some (few) the very oldest of the b&w movies.

We are both avid movie watchers and we own over 1000 DVDs. We have not bought one since getting our Vudu system. The fact that Vudu has both newly released movies as well as foreign and classic movies make it a no-brainer for us.

We often do NOT select the recently released movies, and prefer foreign films because of the rarity of access to them elsewhere.

On average since January we have watched a movie 2-3 a week... and will likely continue at this pace as long as Vudu keeps adding - which they do all of the time.

The user interface is very slick also.. They have obvious categories for the movies which makes some choices and navigation very easy.

Being new and competitive, they are also responsive to good ideas/proposals on their forums.

YMMV... but we are happy with the system. ...

===========
Make no mistake, we would like some (missing) key features, such as the ability to access an external HD of our own material - If we could do that, some of my other systems might just totally disappear....
