Hello!

I have a one of those el-cheapo wireless Radio Shack IR to RF transmitters. My home theater system consists of a LCD 42" insignia connected to a media closet. In the media closet I have a Sony DVD player, a Motorola Cable box, a RCA receiver, a Home Theater PC running Mythbox. I also have a wiring cabinet that holds all the Cat 5, Coax, and speaker wire for the entire house. On top of all of that, I also have my security system box (Ademco 20p) in there as well. Needless to say, I must have to much interference going on for the transmitter and receiver to work reliably.

For my question! I was wondering if anyone has torn apart these little pyramids and hard wired these units together? I know, I know, why don't I buy a real hardwired system? Well simply because I already have this system bought, and I cant take it back. Anyone willing to guide me to the right place? Thanks!

Is it the X10 IR receiver to RF extender? (2 pyramids)

More power to you.
Power up with the Wireless Remote Extender. It installs in minutes, just plug the transmitter and receiver into the AC outlets at the desired locations. The extender even works in situations where you can't easily place the receiver in front of video or audio equipment. With the wireless remote extender you can use your existing remote control to operate audio or video equipment from any room in the house, up to 100 feet away .

*** Whats weird is that the transmitter and receiver are no more then 10 feet away. I actually had to glue the receiver to the closet door so that it will face the components. With the door cracked open I get some reception, but it only works on about half the button pushes. It seems like to me that its a reception problem, and not an actual IR flash. I hope to bypass this by running some cat 5 to both units. I have conduit from closet to tv, so its very easy to run more wire. Maybe theres another cheap alternative to tearing these things apart and hard wiring them together? No matter what, I plan on tearing them apart. I cant take them back, so I might as well figure out how they work!

You can't plug IR emitters on those?
I would be mad to get only half the buttons pushes, it got to be flawless.
I use something different, but I have 9 flashers on my equipement and once installed I never looked back.
Before I used a nextgen remote extender with the front blaster and I could'nt stand those buttons miss.
Anyway good luck to you.

It has 1 output and one IR emitter, but even with it plugged in it still doesn't do the job effectively. Like I said, I think its a interference problem. I am hoping to just solder on a couple wires to both the the antenna wires so they are connected by wire. I was hoping someone else might have experience with this. Thanks for your input though tiger_qc!

Well I do have a separate anrenna, interference was another problem I had in the past.
You can use a double head emitter with your extender, I got 3 for 7$/piece. These have standard 1/8 (3.5mm) mono jack. I have 6 IR inputs on my extender, so to get up to nine I just bought 3 double and it's fine.

Let us know when you get done.

The reviews on that RS wireless extender are not that good... Does anyone have any experience with a good reliable extender?

Absolutely, the NGHP has performed flawlessly for me for a couple of years now...

I HAVE TWO rca 940 extenders- I use one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom. All the components are hidden away in a closet.

the two systems seem to conflict with each other- I dont mind running wires. Is there a hard wired remote extender available>?

thanks

In what way are they conflicting with each other? Are both extenders being used to control the same set of components from different locations? If they are, there shouldn't be a problem, as this is quite common.

Tell us specifically what's happening and we may be able to help...
