View Full Version : Streaming from a Windows Home Server -> router -> wireless bridge -> Media Server...

I'm wondering if this would be a problem.

I have a Windows Home Server connected to a Wireless G (linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware) router. I have the same router (with the same DD-WRT firmware) installed on in my living room. I use the living room router as a wireless bridge.

I plan on connecting the popcorn hour or maybe even the TVIX 6500a to this wireless bridge to stream content from my Windows Home Server to my living room TV. The files will mostly be MP3's, MKV's (DVD rips), and maybe some HD content in the future (don't have any right now).

From my understanding my 54 Mbps router should be fine for handling all non-hd stuff (like my DVD rips)... but should I choose to run a 720p or 1080p source through my wireless network it may not be able to handle that much data at one time.

I could always try wireless N but I've fallen in love with DD-WRT firmware and I don't see any wireless N routers on the market that work perfect with this firmware.

But am I on the right track? My current setup will work fine for non-hd stuff... but I may start running into issues when streaming HD content? If that's the case, I could always keep all my non HD stuff on the Windows Home Server and transfer the HD files to the Media Server's internal hard drive.
