I don't have an SACD player yet, but when I saw all the titles available on amazon I thought it would be a good idea to start buying them now so that when I do finally get a player [80gb PS3?] I might have a nice little collection started. Before I got this SACD bug and before the blu-ray format war ended, I was leaning towards HD-DVD mostly because I've always been happy with Toshiba but I was going to wait until the end of this year anyway regardless of which format won out. I'm looking forward to hearing Tubular Bells on SACD. I'm going to the PS3 thread to see if I can guage the near future of that player.

you might want to get an Oppo instead - with which you get DVD-Audio capability
SACD releases are mostly jazz and classical, DVD-A releases more pop/rock
if you're not format dogmatic, it opens up your choices for high-rez audio - there not being that many in the first place compared to the whole volume of recorded music
HDADs from ClassicRecords also play in DVD-A players, and there's great music from AIX records on DVD-A too

Siriusly, thanks for the reply but does the oppo play DVD-A and SACD both? The reason I ask is that I've been reading some conflicting info about these two formats and I got the impression that SACD if it even survives itself, has a more secure future than DVD-A. Also another reason I wanted to go with a PS3 is for the blu-ray upgrade. I don't think I have format dogma, I just like the idea of one player for hi-rez music and blu-ray playback and as far as I know, PS3 80gb is the only one availalable that can do that.

the Oppo plays both SACD and DVD-A; can't help you with bluray - the Oppo BD player is still a ways off.

not sure about if SACD has a more secure future than DVD-A. As it is Dolby True HD uses a similar lossless compression scheme as DVD-Audio

HDADs from ClassicRecords also play in DVD-A players.....................True but the 92/24 DAD side of these discs, which is still hirez, can play on any DVD player. And there are very few HDADs, anyway.
