I have a Harmony 550 and am having problems with my JVC stereo components. I have the older JVC XL-M317 CD player and TD-W315 tape deck. When I bought them years ago they were running through a JVC receiver which utilized the "compu-link" system. This basically meant that I could control all features of the cd player and tape deck through the JVC receiver remote.

I recently upgraded the receiver to the HK 347 and no longer am able to control the cd player or tape deck. I bought the 550 thinking it would solve the problem.

After setting up activities for both the cd player and tape deck, neither of them will function using the 550.

Has anyone else solved this for JVC components. Is there a way to program with the 550 to make them work, or will they only work with the "compu-link" set-up in the old JVC receiver?

I still have the old JVC receiver remote, but even that doesnt seem to control the comonents without them being tied to the old JVC receiver.

don't know if this is much help but i have JVC JVC XL-M334 CD player and TD-W215 using harmony 1000 and they work fine. have you removed the compu-link cable between them? try that, just guessing.

Its more than likely that the CD & Tape players lack a IR sensor, and depended on the one on the JVC receiver.

Opps rpuhl05, i made a mistake. i had not used my tape player in 4 or 5 month when i had my old JVC receiver. The TD-W215 tape player does not have IR support it has to work with compu-link, i'd bet your W315 model is the same. At least the way i set up my harmony the receiver turns on sets itself to tape, and is ready to go. just plop a tape in and press play.

Are you sure the JVC XL-M317 excepts IR, does it have it's "OWN REMOTE" that powers it on\off with out using your old jvc receiver remote? if it does you should be able to get your harmony to control it. Do you still have the manual for the XL-M317 check it too.
