I am looking into getting the 520 for my bedroom to stream a/v from my computer. Was wondering if a G router would be enough or a N router may help signal strength over the G. Any inputs would be appreciated. thanks

Was wondering if a G router would be enough or a N router may help signal strength over the G. Any inputs would be appreciated. thanks First of all I will try to look at the tread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=593973 But that is increadablely long, so I might suggest that you do an advanced search and make sure you check the "Show Post" not threads. But first of all, the 520 will only work for a "G" wireless access point, only the 750 supports "N" protocol. As for signal strength, in my opinion, I would not think that the "N" access point(wireless router) would help that much unless you have a very weak signal at your DSM side. The protocol is where the speed is set. Secondly those members that I have read with wireless onthe 520 have not had a lot of consistant results with wireless video. I have mine wired, because of all of the post with video and wireless. This is the main reason I believe that D-link add the "N" protocol to the 750 to have the increased bandwidth to support video better. But if you post in the other thread you are more likely to get a repsonse as that is where almost all of the questions and answers are posted with the DSM520. Enbom 04-14-08, 09:01 PM I had good results with a Linksys 802.11g router (for about a year). Only the largest files ever caused problems. Even still, I upgraded to a Linksys 802.11n router. All has been good so far. I hope you'll be fine with either. Soundtweaker 04-14-08, 09:24 PM Get this Dlink DIR-655. It got the best review in the router showdown. http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=530 Its has the best range and is dual band Wireless N. Mine has been rock solid from day 1. |
