View Full Version : Did 2.30 do the following...
BillKen 04-15-08, 03:33 PM Re-enable the power on the USB ports while the PS3 is off if you have remote play enabled so the Schmart Stuff PS3 IR On/Off works again?
Allow audio to pass through both the optical and hdmi simultaneously?
Thanks!
Bill
I'm pretty sure the simultaneous audio passthrough has been there the whole time?

Not true....Sony used a simplistic approach towards audio and video making it accessible via only one output at a time, respectively. For instance you could not use the HDMI for audio/video to your display while at the same time using the optical out to your AVR for audio - One Audio out only and One Video out only.
Not sure if 2.30 opened up settings more, I'd be interested to know as well.

Ah, my bad. Thanks for the correction :)

Strange... because of different living arrangements, I've had the PS3 sending video to the TV through HDMI and audio to the receiver through optical. Later, I had the video coming out in SD to the tv through composite with audio going to the receiver through HDMI for uncompressed sound. I know neither of these is ideal, but it's what I could do at the time and I've never had a problem with either arrangement. I have the 60GB model, by the way.

A single audio output and a separate video output.
The question was whether you could have multiple audio outs configured simultaneously, which you couldn't do before. Now?

you see, with your set ups you never had audio going through two connections at the same time. It was video in one connection and audio in the other. What is being discussed would be something like audio output over HDMI and audio output over optical at the same time.
txfilmguy 04-15-08, 04:32 PM I see that now. I corrected myself in an edit right after I posted. Thanks.
BillKen 04-15-08, 04:34 PM Correct - so I can use my TV's speakers when my wife and kids are sleeping - or use my AVR when no one's home and I want to crank things up - without having to switch the audio output settings in the PS3 setup menu.

Exactly.
Does anyone definitively know the answer to the OP question? I was not aware of any changes to the audio/video structure, associated with the 2.30 update, not to say that there were none, I was just unaware.
Has anyone been able to substantiate this as fact or is this simple a "I heard that Sony was..." type of rumor?
I've always wanted the ability to pass audio out through both HDMI and optical; HDMI to my TV and optical to my receiver.
I can't remember the version, somewhere around 1.8 or so, I noticed that audio was in fact being output from both my TV and my receiver. This wasn't for everything; I didn't experience it for anything from the XMB like music or videos, and I never had it happen for and BD games. However, I did experience it from some of the PSN games like Blast Factor and Puzzle Fighter.
The weird thing was that something about the signal going to the TV was weird; I got quite a bit of distortion at even moderate listening levels. However, if I went through the setup and limited audio to HDMI only, the same sound level through my TV yielded no distortion. It freaked me out at first because I thought my TV's speakers were going out.
I don't know if this is happening any longer because I've since replaced my receiver, and now audio is limited to HDMI only.
TornadoTJ 04-15-08, 04:57 PM With 2.20 my wired connection drops constantly. It was fine with previous releases. I hope that this has been fixed...

+1
Although this isn't related to the OP's questions

I just tried with my PS3 IR and it does not power on or off. Under the last update I was still able to power off but not on, and now I cannot do either

Yea, I figured it fit with "did 2.30 do this..." I thought it could be a thread of found fixes. ;)
