I don't want to sound bitchy but I just found out my order for GT5 Prologue that I placed MONTHS AGO, may not ship for a while through Amazon.com. I did not order last week, or the week before, or the week before, and so on and so on. WTF??? Can you tell I'm not a Sony fan? I'm not!!! I hate their position in regards to DRM, but the PS3 is the best AV gear I've ever purchased! Thumbs way Up!!! I just don't understand how they couldn't or DIDN'T purchase the use of more duplicating units to get this title out on time for us!

I didn't see them there, as I wasn't there. I do think that they should do a better job of meeting demand quicker. This wasn't unforseen and I didn't order recently!

Its not the first time Amazon.com has been late shipping games. I don't pre-order from them for that reason. Sorry I do understand your pain though...

William, thank you for your post. I didn't realize Amazon wasn't reliable for on time shipments on games. I've dealt with them for numerous items and have been thrilled. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for the lesson.

The same thing happened to me when I ordered Patapon on Amazon, I preordered it more than a month before release and I got the game weeks after it was officially released. More than Sony I'd say Amazon sells more than what they know they are going to receive.

Talk about overreacting. Amazon listed that they would have it today but they didn't get it today so an automatic notice goes out. The thing is, nobody got it today. You're in a panic over nothing. If they don't get it by tomorrow or Thursday then you may have a case. I fully expect them to get it tomorrow and to ship it tomorrow.

Amazon lists the title as "in stock" on the 17th (despite the listed release date of the 15th). I can understand our excitement, but let's at least wait until the game is out before we start complaining about not having it yet!!

it is apparent that sony didn't realize the high demand for their overpriced demo. i can understand this. Are we still saying this? Come on. Multiple tracks. Two dozen cars. Online and offline multiplayer. Three racing tiers. Drifting and time trial competitions. Leaderboards. Video sharing. Etc. Etc. "Demo" indeed.

With sales as high as they are in Europe (number 1 in software sales for all platforms three weeks running), there's little chance Sony's surprised by US pre-sale numbers.

It's American Airlines fault. Sony was shipping GTP5 to Amazon warehouses via AA. When they grounded the 300 planes and canceled all those flights it backed all shipments up.

It's not Sony or Amazon's fault. ;)

I don't preorder from anyone generally. Don't want to be locked in waiting from one resource. I just look through threads to find out what retailer has what I want when it is released. Sorry to say, no stores seem to have it either from what I've read so far so is amazon to blame for this one? I blame Sony also! :)

That's true. The game isn't a demo but you are pretty much paying for a feature-incomplete beta. The thing is, this beta is better and more packed with content than many full priced games.

Yeah, but tax is still more than you'll get from trading in the download version. So, there. :p

Although, I have to say that unless there is some shocking revelation in GT5, the Prologue will probably be enough for me, and I'll simply keep it and move on to the other multiple games that will release around the time of GT5.

So, everyone calling this a "overpriced demo," I'd say that it's actually an "early release discount version for the casual GT player." Then, again--I've always proven myself to be a glass half full kinda guy.

It isn't the full game, by any means, either. Calling it an overpriced work-in-progress would be more suitable. If you're not a fan, okay. But if you are, this is more than just a work-in-progress. I've had a chance to put in a few hours, and after that I prefer to think of it as an hors d'oeuvre. Complete in and of itself, but just a taste of what's to come. If you think it's too expensive, eat somewhere else.

But on topic: pre-orders are a scam, plain and simple.
I just feel like rambling on about useless crap after reading this thread. What is the point of pre-ordering? I can't recall the last time a game wasn't available the day it came out. There's a lot of politics involved in the world of pre-orders.

The retailers with the most clout in the gaming market all do pre-orders. Pre-order numbers are becoming a bigger and bigger determiner of eventual sales. If a game pre-orders well, it will sell well. If it doesn't pre-order well (or much at all), then often those outlets won't even carry it, or will carry it in limited numbers.

This made a game like Zack and Wiki very hard to find for a while. Since it didn't pre-order well, it wasn't stocked. And because it wasn't stocked, it didn't sell as well as it deserved.

It's messed up. Lesser known games stay lesser known because of pre-orders. Certain games are assured to get poor sales because of poor pre-sales. The vast majority of gamers don't stay informed of the gaming world (they aren't on forums and they don't read gaming sites or magazines). All they have is the stores themselves and word of mouth.

I say be sure to pre-order, but try to pre-order games that you think might need or deserve the extra attention. Don't pre-order high profile games. All that means is that the "rich" get richer, and the "poor" stay poor.

Well, I'll explain why I preordered it from Amazon. Sony had a deal that if you preordered it, you'd get $5 off. Combine that with free shipping, and no tax, I save roughly about $8 from buying it in the store.

PS, like I said, way to overreact. If you go to Amazon now, you can order it as it's in stock now. They're shipping out people's orders today. What you got was an automated generated message.

I just checked my Amazon pre-order (with the $5-off deal that Darknight just mentioned) that I placed on April 5th, and it still says shipping on the 21st, with an estimated delivery of 4/28-5/2.

I'll be picking up a copy at Best Buy this afternoon. I'd rather pay the $5 than wait two more weeks.

I placed my preorder last week with the $5 off pre-order coupon. At the time, if I selected 'free super saver shipping', the ship date was 4/22. Then I noticed if I selected 'standard shipping', the ship date was the 16th. Of course standard shipping is around $5 so that wipes out the $5 coupon savings.

I had to call customer service because when I checked my order online, it had a ship date of 4/21, but said it was "preparing for shipping" and couldn't be canceled.

While talking to customer service, I learned that when you use Super Saver, they wait until they have other orders going to your area, and then ship everything out in a batch, so while my copy of the game was ready to go, I had to wait until they did their bulk mailing. Fortunately, I was able to cancel my pre-order with customer service, and I went to Circuit City and got a copy of the game and a free t-shirt! ^^

hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and it is still my contention that this game is overpriced. especially when gta4 and mgs4 are coming out right after it. relatively speaking, in relation to these two aforementioned titles, it is a ripoff. IN MY OPINION. however, if this was the only thing coming out in the near future, i would pick it up in a second for lack of better options. and yes, i am a huge gt fan. i'm just not a fan of being taken to the cleaners.

I'm sorry. I'm not a veteran gamer that has a lot of knowledge about game preorders. I have done a lot of preorders with DVD movies and have always had them arrive on time or often earlier than release date. I didn't expect it to arrive on time, just ship out. I know better now. It was wrong of me to assume (it made an ass not out of you, but me) that Sony had an obligation or commitment to fulfill preorders from their top retailers. I will think things through and not jump to conclusions next time.

I had to go to three stores tonight to get GT5:P. Luckily, they were all within walking distance of the same parking spot. Both Gamestop and Best Buy were sold out--I actually walked past the guy who bought the last one at BB. Target had three copies left.

Not everyone can take an hour to track a game down.

he admitted he hasn't had much experience with pre-orders so i guess the lesson here is not to jump to quick worst-case-scenario conclusion. i always tell the GS pre-order nazi's that i don't like to pre order because i may be in a different area of town on the day it's available and want to pick up [?title?] at the first convenience.

anyway, run4two, i hope you get your game soon. my only point was i know how much of a PITA preorders can be because you run into waiting for someone else to get you the game, rather than being able to pick it up at your leisure.
