So I have the newest firmware upgrade. I put in a blu-ray disk. If I hit display on the remote it says dts-hd ma 5.1

What do I want to put my receiver on? I have an Onkyo receiver that says it does HD audio. Do I want to put it on multi-channel? What is the correct/best setting?

Thanks.

You need to connect the PS3 to your receiver via HDMI, and make sure PCM is selected in the PS3's audio output settings.

I don't know Onkyos, but I should say something to indicate that you're getting a PCM signal, I would imagine.

What does it say? Are you getting sound from all five speakers?

If I understand correctly, your receiver will not indicate that it is receiving DTSHDMA unless it is receiving the signal via bitstream. Don't worry, you're still getting DTSHDMA. The PS3 can only send high resolution audio via PCM. This is no big deal. The PS3 is decoding the signal rather than your receiver.

Ok, i'm not that big of an audiophile. I have a receiver (Sony DG810) that cannot decode DTS-HD MA, but it can accept PCM signals. Does this mean that with the 2.3 update, I wouldn't need a DTS-HD MA capable AVR to get the same sound from my speakers? I apologize in advance if this is too much of a noob question.

Set the PS3 to send LPCM, then your Onkyo will tell you it's receiving "multichannel."

During playback, hit select. If it says "DTS-HD MA 5.1" and the Onkyo says "multichannel," you're golden.

Have an HDMI cable run video and audio from your ps3 to your receiver. Then have your receiver send the video to your tv.

Here's my question

I watched shoot 'em up yesterday and DTS was a lot louder/fuller sounding than DTS-HDMA. What's up w/ that? I have an onkyo 605. When I hit select on my controller the DTS soundtrack said its running about 1.x Mbps while the hdma was 5.x Mbps.

Have the hdmi go into the receiver. it will pass both video and audio. then hdmi out of the receiver into the tv.

i didnt think the 605 could handle hdma

The issue is the PS3 processes and outputs both True HD and (apparently) HDMA at a quieter volume. All you need to do is turn up the volume. :)

i didnt think the 605 could handle hdmaTrue, it can't process HDMA, but that's not a problem since the PS3 processes HDMA and sends it on to the 605 as multichannel PCM. So there's no issue.

That's exactly what I did, turn it up.

Also, my receiver displayed multichannel PCM but when I hit select it stated it was, in fact, HDMA.

Thanks!
