Is that the Japanese version? I got a code for that one. When can I get the EU code? I registered my Konami ID for EU but cannot seem to find a place to get the code from on the MGS website for the EU version.

Nothing has been declared as a BIG mistake, however, there are a number of individuals with 9, 10, and myself 11 digit, Aplha-Numeric codes...I dont know if they will work.

I have attempted to contact Konami about this issue, as have many others, attempting to see if there is a resolution or if these codes are simply invalid until the 17th.

I guess all we can do is wait until tomorrow.

I'm 50% away from completing the download. The only advantage is that hardly anyone is downloading today so it'll be alot quicker than trying tomorrow (advertised availability date) when everyone will be sucking up bandwidth.

I never had that issue. I was able to us my PSN ID. There is a Konami ID and a separate MGSO ID. The Konami ID can be anything (ie first name), then I would try to get what you use for your PSN ID for your MGSO ID. Both of mine don't use special characters.

i tried to get an ID on monday when they posted over at the PS blog. it said that you had to use all of those. it might be that ii'm using Opera. hmmmm?

wow. I got to the main menu of the game and hit start. It took me to a "user agreement" screen and then let me know that "An update (Ver. 1.01) has been uploaded. Please download it to update your sofware version." It then gives you the option of P2P or HTTP download. The P2P was a whopping 5 KB/s! Going to try HTTP.

And yes, its in 1080p so far. (well that's what my TV is telling me).

The HTTP is a bit faster. I'm already at 2% (after 4 min!). Still slower than molasses on a Sunday morning. :D

I can't even get the Konami site to load today.

Yesterday when putting in my information, it wouldn't take my email address, saying it had already been registered! (A Gmail account)

So I go and try to get the ID sent to me figuring maybe, somehow, someone reg'ed under my addy, and it says I'm not in the database... WTF?

Something tells me Konami isn't up for what they're about to get hit with!

I hope this isn't a forewarning of the quality we can expect from Konami online service and MGO...

Once downloaded the demo will boot up PS3 web browser and ask you to create an ID if you don't already have one.

Capcom did this sort of proprietary dedicated servers with RE:Outbreak, and even Konami with the original MG:O that came with MGS3:Substance.

What happened to both? Gone within 18 months when it wasn’t as profitable to keep the game servers running, which in turn killed the games. Dumb dumb dumb!

Noticed that I can get to the Konami ID site via the PS3 faster than I can do it on the PC. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen the page on my PC!

Console developers living in the past, that's why.

I'm still wondering why Warhawk didn't give us the option to download and install a Linux server on our ps3 or Linux boxes. Take a look at HalfLife, or even Quake 2 for that matter, you can still find people to play games with, and have the ability to do so!

These propitiatory game servers, logins, ect are just farces of them trying to charge more under the guise of maintenance. For a simple game that won't be using that much bandwidth per server, it makes no sense.

It really should only be done with games who provide much more content after downloading, and massive worlds and servers that take real cash to host and can't be hosted on personal servers, such as WWII Online or WoW.

Now I'm kinda glad I didn't respond in time to get in on this beta, otherwise I would be mighty frustrated. And a monthly fee? Screw that.

I agree that the separate KonamiID is pretty stupid and the registration problems definitely don't inspire confidence, but at the same time let's remember this is a beta test. The KonamiID's could be used exclusively for the beta test and our PSN ID's will used once the game launches.

I registered previously and there isn't a monthly fee for the beta. They just make you agree to the T&C for both the Konami site and the payment process since you're now registered at the site. This way you can make purchases going forward if you want to on their site.

Oh i know the beta is free, just the way it was worded sounds like they plan on charging you for using their service on full games.

As for the MGO Download, I'm home and doing it right now. Looks like there might have been a printing error for some of you, as my key is 12 digits and works.

1. Walked into Gamecrazy, gave them $5 for preorder, received DVD with code.
2. Went to Konami two days ago and setup my Konami ID/Game ID.
3. Today, went to transaction management on PSN, entered the 12 char key, downloaded beta
4. Once beta installed, entered game and downloaded/installed update.
5. Logged in using Game ID/password (saved info), no server error (as expected).

I don't think a 9 digit code will work... I think Konami really screwed the pooch on this one. I hope you guys get your problems resolved before the 21st.

I love how they have an update as soon as you install it. why on earth didn't they just put that up in the first place?? It seems like the update is a fairly large file, as if it's downloading the entire thing again judging by the progress and speed listed, and is going much slower than the original download.

edit: if you cancel the download and want to switch to bit torrent or http (don't bother, server error right now), it makes you restart the entire game. the whole process with multiple id's and codes that don't work, along with this ridiculous update doesn't seem well thought out at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the beta is a complete mess.

Seems to be a common issue. I happen to also have a 9 digit code. I emailed Konami this afternoon today. Seems that Konami is handling this well and sending out correct Beta Codes for people. Don't worry, just give it some time. It maybe tomorrow before they get back to us.

I gave up trying to download the update last night. HTTP kept giving server errors, and p2p was crawling along at about 40KBs, highest was at 80 for a short time, and it only got through 15% in an hour. How big is the update anyhow??

I'll try again tonight, hopefully it will be smoother after the initial rush last night.

As I'm sure a lot of you know by now, European Platstation 3 users will be able to log into the new Playstation Store and download the Metal Gear Online beta at will from April 17th, to May 6th. No need for any codes, registration, or pre-ordering; just head online, download, and you can play.

This is also good news for the lazy folk who didn't want to spend hours fighting with Konami's Japanese registration, or those who didn't pre-order MGS4. If you have the time to make a European Playstation Store account, you'll be able to download the beta and play. The process is pretty simple; while making a PSN account, just choose a European country and you're good to go.

Is anyone else having issues downloading the 1.01 update? When I do the http route, I get a network error, when I try the p2p method it just sits at 0 kb... for an hour before I get sick of waiting. I've tried forwarding the port that it's got set at default, but that doesn't seem to help either. Any ideas?

Do you need to enter a code when you load the game because it's downloadable from the Australian store right now. If I have to enter a code after I download it though I just won't bother because I don't have one.

Hrm, usually you have to enter the code to get the initial install. If you can download the beta from the Oz store... give it a try and tell us how it comes out! :D

I haven't seen anything official but apparently the PAL version won't work in other territories due to IP restrictions. Just a heads up.

I am now finally frustrated. I cannot get the Konami id and have been trying to get on the site for two days now! Today I get to the first registration page, but can't get any further than that. Everything is downloaded, installed, but i need the damn Konami i.d. Ridiculous!

Since I'm on the West coast, before I go to bed tonight, I'll go P2P and let it run. I'm sure the servers are just overloaded and if that doesn't work, I'll try over the weekend. No big deal.

I really hope the game is better than Konami's handling of it. This is terrible. Wrong codes, can't patch, Konami ID, can't get a Konami ID, my prediction is they extend the beta test a week because of all these screwups.

3 hours later and I am close to getting the 1.1 update downloaded. If it allows me, I am going to leave it on tonight to share it with everyone who still needs it. I still have had no luck registering a Konami ID. I followed the directons and it says it is invalid. What a bunch of crap Konami. The preview video has me pumped I must admit. I cannot wait to play some "tactical espionage action" with you guys. Another thing that I thought was differrnt from any other MGS game was the pressing of X(the American way) instead of O(like on every other MGS game). So I just got my second beta code. First one I called and she gave me the last 3 digits, then they I checked my email and there was a brand new code in there for me.

I also signed up for the Konami ID earlier this week, so if I can just get past the update, I'll finally be good to go.

So I was finally able to register for the Konami ID and Game ID, but it's been near 12 hours and still haven't received the confirmation email I was supposed to receive 'shortly' - you need to confirm your account. So they suggest that if you don't, log in and confirm from there. Well, when you try to log in, all it does is apparently reload the homepage, with a query string in the web address, with your username and password in clear text no less, and you're still not logged in. Any one else having the same problem?

The code is in the following format xxx-xxx-x and I have put everything in case sensitive.

You need to pre-order MGS4 which you will in turn receive a MGS DVD. Inside the DVD is the beta redemption code.

I have finally been able to get a Konami and Game IDs this morning (yeah! :cool: ). I tried to connect on MGO but I got a server is not connected error or something (can't remember the exact wording of the error since I have to rush off to work). Downloaded the the Beta, my code is from the preorder DVD i got from gamestop. Your code has got to be in this format: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. a total of twelve numbers and letters, mine was in all caps, if you it is any less than that you need to contact Konami. now my problem is i started to download the 1.1 update, i left it on from 5am to noon and it got to 51% with two people on the p2p it downloaded quick to 40 and some, and then died. I havent even tried the stupid Konami ID with all of the horror stories im hearing here.

That's what I was hoping when I did that. Instead, I came home to a server error message via http and it didn't download squat. The night before I tried with P2P and woke up to a server error, but at least I had a partial file (86%). I hope it's done today with no errors.

I was able to get the download. My code was 12 digits from gamestop. From reading here I guess I still need the update. So is the consensus to use P2P and leave it overnight instead of http and leave it overnight?

I have bad feelings with the Konami ID thing.

The really annoying thing is that it looks like they gave more bandwidth to the Konami front page and sign in page, yet trying to put in or edit any ID info will time out.

I was getting those errors.. so I switched to a different e-mail address and it went through. Maybe it was a fluke, but I thought I'd pass it on anyway.

ive tried 3 email addresses 2 didnt work the first time. 1 worked but when i submited there was an error and now it says there is already an id with that email although it was never created.

update finally got through website just started working fine like someone flipped a switch. anyway got the id finally and replied to the confirm email. has anyone tried to log into the game yet though? does it work yet?

The new code they gave me worked like a champ.

I wound up getting the initial download and the update in less than an hour. I know people were loving me for the upload speed (thank you FiOS).

After the patch install, the Konami ID website took me about 5 tries. I guess everyone was out or away from their computer last night.

Just a heads-up for anyone trying to get their ID. Read the side notes CAREFULLY. There are some that require 8+ alphanumeric numbers only, and some that are NUMBERS only. Read it. And the one that gets EVERYONE it seems....NO CAPS! ;) It all has to be lower case.

That should save some frustration at the end.

The funny thing is that in the Metal Gear online menu, when you first start, it says, "The Konami ID and Game ID does not show up in game. The name you give your character will show in game only." LOL! Waste of two IDs. Sony and Konami should have worked together on this one.

They give free reign to developers to use any online framework their hearts desire, which may sound good on paper but often ends up in the enormous clusterF that MGO is already becoming.

I can't imagine anybody but a fanboy legitimately arguing that if Sony streamlined the PSN so that everything was tied to a user's single PSN ID, then we would be in a better place right now. Yes it costs, but XBL has nailed this. They have much more communistic guidelines for developers looking to put their content on XBL, but it works. Take the Halo 3 beta for example, all you needed was your gamertag and MS did all the legwork behind the scenes to link it with bungie's servers. Same story with COD4 beta. In the end, it's the end user that wins when their console manufacturer protects them from situations such as this.

Sadly, I have to agree. As much as I dislike the idea of paying for Online gaming, the service offered through XBL is terrific. Granted the free service for most, if not 98%, of the titles with online features has been handled fairly well so far on PSN, this (MGO BETA) and at times COD4, have become some of the most frustrating messes I have seen in quite sometime.

Dear god, after trying for the past 4 days to register a Konami ID, I finally did it. This has been the most frustrating thing I have ever had to do. Sony and Konami really dropped the ball on this stupid idea. Konami is well aware of the hype MGS4 has received and if they are going to offer an online beta part of a huge pre-order special then they should have their own website up and running without the annoying errors popping up everywhere.

I have this bad feeling that come Monday when everybody goes to log into the beta the servers will melt and nothing will work.

But, really, how many codes did Konami give out? How many preorders does the game have? Why the hell did they give out codes like candy last week if they knew they had a damn 486DX serving up the Konami ID page? It's weird. Basicaly, open up two Konami ID windows and navigate to the first screen where you enter your birthday on both. Then navigate to the screen where you enter your info and do it. Then, use the other page as a test and see if the Agreement page comes up. If it doesn't, do it again until it does. If it does, then confirm on the other screen real fast. Worked the first time I did it.

I agree that it's super lame and annoying, but you didn't pay for the beta, and isn't a part of beta testing doing stress tests? Clearly Konami failed miserably on this but don't you think there is a chance Konami will learn from this and get it fixed up for the proper release? I realize companies now regularly use beta tests to get people to buy the game (its a ****** practice, plain and simple) so more expectations are placed on them, but bottom line betas are for testing products above all.

What the hell is up with needing a PSN id, a "Konami ID", and a "Game ID"? And then also needing a number or special character in your ID? And yes, I do think that Sony should be more restrictive to ensure that only one ID is required in a game, and that ID is the PSN ID. What the hell is up with needing a PSN id, a "Konami ID", and a "Game ID"? And then also needing a number or special character in your ID? And yes, I do think that Sony should be more restrictive to ensure that only one ID is required in a game, and that ID is the PSN ID. I can agree with all that. It sounds like a major clusterf***. I was actually interested in signing up for the Beta when I saw this thread pop up because I wasn't planning on getting the game but I figured this would be a good way to know if I would enjoy it. But after reading through the thread I decided to abstain.

Follow what the video I linked to says, you will have your Konami ID in five minutes. Yea, it's dumb, but if it was easy to get I don't think most people would have cared. After all, they put up with friend codes.

My game is patched, I got my ID, I am all ready to go.

I can't imagine anybody but a fanboy legitimately arguing that if Sony streamlined the PSN so that everything was tied to a user's single PSN ID, then we would be in a better place right now. Yes it costs, but XBL has nailed this. They have much more communistic guidelines for developers looking to put their content on XBL, but it works. Take the Halo 3 beta for example, all you needed was your gamertag and MS did all the legwork behind the scenes to link it with bungie's servers. Same story with COD4 beta. In the end, it's the end user that wins when their console manufacturer protects them from situations such as this.

If Bungie wanted to do this for H3 Beta testing, MS would have let them. Whenever there are franchises such as this, H3, MGS, etc... Sony and Microsoft are at the mercy of the developer if that dev is a third party. So comparing XBL and PSN has no relevance here. Also, didn't you have to buy Crackdown in order to participate in the H3 beta? I am not sure (but I was told this) because I have never enjoyed Halo or any alien shooter for that matter. So although this entire fiasco has been a headache, at least I didn't have to pay 60 bones to participate.

Just do P2P... here's a hint, if you don't get a decent connection very fast (a few K at least within 5 minutes, quit and try again). Do it for an hour or two at a time, you can restore downloads.

The download (initial and patch) was the only thing that went smoothly in this process for me. ID was fun, and now we wait for Monday.

You doing P2P? That might be the problem for now as I wonder how many people are downloading this late tonight?

I tried both with no luck. I just stared at 0.000 downloaded and 0.000 uploaded for an hour this afternoon and awhile ago. That, and it's nearly impossible to finish downloading Age of Conan since I made it into the pvp weekend beta so things are not going my way.

I never could get the http update to work, kept getting errors on it.

I took the p2p route, it took 5 hours averaging 40KBs/s, only connected to 12 clients. I figured more people would have been connected to p2p and it would have went faster, but oh well, it's updated now.

For the ones still trying to update via p2p, 2 tips...disable UPnP and disable the upload limit before you start it.

According to the European verison of the beta website it starts at 00:00 CEST which would be 6:00 EST today if my feeble calculations are correct. The US and Japanese pages aren't any more specific than April 21st.

For what it's worth, it's past that time and still nothing.

The North American public beta test of Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid Online (PS3) has been delayed to an unspecified date, publisher Konami announced today.
The company cited "extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe" as impetus for the delay of the Metal Gear Online beta, which was originally scheduled to go live today. Konami also noted that further information regarding the beta's new launch date would be announced Tuesday night.

I finally redeemed my code but Im having problems downloading the update. when I try http it will give me a connection error, every time, and when I try p2p it won't do anything. right know its been 58 minutes and is at 0%. any suggestions? Im connected wireless.

I let mine run all night on p2p. It took an hour or so to get any seeders.

I will probably leave it on again for another 8 hours, but this is really getting out of hand...

Yeah, I have been leaving it on for about 6 or so hours sometimes more every day since I got my beta key and have yet to successfully download the update, I have attempted to contact Konami on three different occasions and have yet to receive a response regarding the issues with their servers and the HTTP method of downloading, because right now P2P isnt really a viable option.

About 72 hours later I am finally ready for the Beta to start...

I dont know, I am in the process of researching that, but, either way I am changing ISPs tomorrow so I guess I will eventually get a chance to test a new provider out and see if anything changes.
