Just a question. If you're sitting in the same room as the PS3, why not just play it on there? Just trying to find out if I'm missing something.

Well the whole "remote" term is generally recognized as being at a different location from your PS3. Although at the moment, remote view would be a better description of the current capabilities.

lol... To the OP, Remote Play also works over the internet(for some people anyway), so you can use it anywhere you have WiFi access for your PSP.

Oh, and some people have projectors that they'd rather not have to fire up just to change songs...

Yea, the basic theory behind Remote Play is being able to access everything on your PS3 from a "remote" location. Since I have my PS3 networked to my PC, I can turn on my PS3 from anywhere with a wifi connection and have access to all my pictures, music, and videos on my PS3 and my PC. Currently, you can only play Pixel Junk Monsters and Lair via remote play, but more games are coming.

I really hope we'll be able to play all games via remote play eventually.

Sometimes my wifes likes to watch TV and I can play Pixel Junk Monsters via Remote Play and I don't have to send here upstairs. Huh, imagine that!

Essentially, no. The PS3 actually needs to be put in a Remote Play mode, in which no other functions are available.

I would love to play more PSX games with remote play while at "work", but the lag just kills it. It's an awesome feature, it just needs to be a little more fleshed out.

What do I have to do use it in conjunction with files on my PC? I have PS3 and PC hooked up a Verizon Fios router. Where do I go from there?

Ok thanks. I was under the impression you could only use it on your home network. This makes it more appealing. Thanks for clearing it up everyone.

Is it mandatory to set a static IP to BOTH your PS3 and PSP to use it at a remote location?

I still have not got the remote play to work outside of my home network. ughh

Not Mandatory but on my setup it works better when the PS3 has a static IP. Even after that I had to port fwd the remote play port on my router. This was whether uPnP was enabled or not on the router.

Well, funny how things change. My remote play has been working perfectly. Now with the updates I suddenly can't turn on the PS3 remotely. I checked the settings of course and the system is still set to remote power on. Remote play still works if I manually start the PS3 and enter Remote Play. Gonna have to mess with this some more to see what the problem is.

In regards to static IP, if you are on a network that changes IP frequently (DSL, cable, whatever), just use DynDNS. It's free.

I need to do that do, I just keep forgetting to look at it when I am at home!
