View Full Version : Sony needs to make REMOTE PLAY features for alot of game......
Specially for PS1 games, but also for PSN and hell LAIR had it why not added it for Wipeout or Warhawk or GT5 ect, I think this feature is cool but I never use it
but I would if I could play all or more of my PS3 games on the go.
Jiffylush 04-16-08, 01:35 PM Agreed, maybe add an offline remote-play feature as well.
DarrellG 04-16-08, 01:39 PM You must've read my mind. I agree:

Supposedly, the next 4.0 update for the PSP will include the ability to play ALL PSN games. So that's definitely a step in the right direction. I hope this includes PS1 games also. But playing Super Stardust HD would be awesome.
Slacker George 04-16-08, 01:41 PM All PS1 games are remote play enabled already.
TornadoTJ 04-16-08, 01:43 PM But it makes no sense because you can send the PS1 game to your PSP and just play it locally.

Meh, I still play Castlevania remotely because my save-game is on the PS3. Although the internet lag makes it too difficult to use anywhere but locally.
I think if they were planning for LAIR to be a HIT in order to push this remote play stuff more, but then that flopped and the plans were ruined. Perhaps they are waiting for Wipeout HD or Socom to be the one to use in order to make it clear that you can literally play PS3 games remotely on PSP, if more people see that in action it could catch on.
Slacker George 04-16-08, 01:55 PM I thought you could transfer saves to the PSP too.

Oh you can, but I'm too lazy to transfer it back and forth every time I want to play on a different console.

Geez..another complaint thread by Mr Gslide....
obsid1an 04-16-08, 03:14 PM Pretty sure it's the controls that are the limiting factor here.

well, let's hope he keeps it up so that kyser can... um, forget it, i don't want to ruin the surprise.;)

Yeah, I want to play my games on a 4.3" 480x272 screen instead of a 61" 1920x1080 screen. That's the ticket. And the input lag on old DLPs isn't enough ... can I get somewhere closer to a full second? Maybe I can just have someone else play and I can watch them from a webcam and type directions into AOL Messenger ...

Playing "remotely" > not playing at all.
Fredster 04-17-08, 01:20 PM It's practically impossible to remote play PS1 games even over your own LAN. Perhaps puzzle or turned based game might work, but nothing requiring reasonably precise movement or button sequences. I do like the remote feature though mostly just to futz around with the other PS3 stuff.
Cygnus311 04-17-08, 02:14 PM I would like to see more games with this ability too but good luck with games like Super Stardust when you can't um, shoot. Sure you can use the face buttons as the right stick but, yeah...

I wouldn't want Super Stardust on a PSP screen, anyway. That game can get pretty cluttered even on a 42"
Conspiracy* 04-17-08, 03:58 PM It'd be cool if I could even get remote play to work at my job. I get timed out errors from here over the unsecured wireless connection. I can connect just fine from school.

Crashed seemed to work fine for me. This brings up a thought I had about being able to access the DVD/BD from the PSP. There would probably be an issue trying to stream them over a network.
TornadoTJ 04-17-08, 06:19 PM I haven't tried streaming a DVD or BD yet, but I don't see why it would not work. I stream video from my DVR already using TVersity. It works great. I don't think I'd be able to do it over the internet, though, I only have 368k up speed.

You can't access DVD/BD via Remote Play. Oddly, they don't even appear in the XMB on the PSP. I tried RPing a PS2 game, and the disc appeared in the XMB, but when I clicked on it, it told me that this game wasn't compatible with RP.
If you want to watch your DVDs/BDs remotely, you'll have to rip them first.

Meh, not a feature I'd expect to see anyhow. You can stream all your videos through your DLNA server, but as previously mentioned, uploading directly from your DVD/BD would require way too much bandwidth. I guess there's potential there for the PS3 to transcode for you, but that'd be another feature on the wish list.
serversurfer 04-17-08, 07:38 PM My guess was that it was more of a DRM issue than anything, since it doesn't even work locally, and they're actually hidden in the XMB.
Someone should try it with a homemade (and therefore DRM-free) DVD.
briankmonkey 04-17-08, 07:38 PM I really wish there was a way to play PSP games on my PS3. Or port them over to the PS2 like they did with the last Ratchet and Clank game. #1 reason is I want to play the PSP Ghost n Goblins game.

Yeah actually that would be a cool feature. Like reverse remote play :p
It would be cool if the PSP was or could become a pocket PS3 with a cell chip and let remote play give us complete access to our PS3's and in time I am sure it could.

Sure, that's totally possible.
… in about 5-10 years. :p

I will be almost 60 in ten years. I don't want to be telling people I still play video games. :D

Don't the new PSPs have a TV-out port?

This is a feature I would want MUCH more than remote play.

Yes, but stretching a cable from your couch to your TV/AVR isn't exactly the most optimal solution; especially once you've gotten used to cable-free goodness. That, and the PSP plays games in a 480x272 window inside a 480p signal.

obsid1an 04-18-08, 12:13 PM Plus, I have an old PSP. I just don't see why you couldn't hook the PSP up via USB to the PS3 and have it upconvert the video and process the controls as all the PS3 controller controls could easily be mapped to the PSP.
