Hi. Will the PS3 version play just as good or better than the Xbox version? I ask because I really want to get this for PS3 due to the scratch resistance of the disk and the fact the PS3 won't RRoD on me.

Yes, I mean No.

A game title would help.

Since multiplayer is a major facet of GTA4, buy it on whichever system you have more friends.

From all accounts I've seen the two versions of are practically identical. Talking about the gameplay here.

This required its own thread, why?

Buy the PS3 version. You seem to have made up half your mind already. Plus, it just seems like GTA belongs on a Playstation anyways.

Isn't there some exclusive content on the 360 version?

But if you are concerned about the RRoD and you are posting here then you have probably already made up your mind.

I agree with the post about get it on whatever system your friends have.

There will be exclusive DLC for the 360 version at a currently indeterminate time. The content of this DLC is also unannounced. The versions shipping on April 29 are supposed to be identical.

I would pick a PS3 for GTA4 if:
1) You aren't terribly interested in DLC -- although it does look like the DLC is not exclusive, just timed exclusive (I can't quote the source, but I sure I read that somewhere).
2) You want a blu-ray player
3) Don't really want to pay 60$/year to play online (60$ isn't so bad if you play allot of other games)
4) Want scratch resistant disks
5) a reliable system
6) Your friends have PS3's

The 360 version if:
1) Getting the DLC for certain, and certainly earlier than the PS3 (if it gets PS3 release)
2) Don't care about blu-ray, as somewhat compresed HD movies can be downloaded from Xbox live
3) Playing online is your thing, and paying 60$ for that priveledge is OK by you.
4) Don't play too much, as the 360 is prone to RROD from overuse (not all the units -- but 33% is some reports)
5) Your friends have 360's

I chose the PS3 version.

Do we know what the DLC is going to be? If it's just more "story missions", fuggit. I'm not getting this game for the story, I'm getting it to run over innocent people and play online.

Hopefully the DLC will be better than Oblivion's (Horse armor?).

Martez

Yeah. Is it sad that while playing Oblivion, I thought horse armor WOULD be cool looking, even though it's completely pointless?

That had to be about the most ridiculously biased comparison I can think of. While I'll definitely recommend the PS3 itself, over the 360, to someone who is equally interested in gaming as they are movies. I certainly wouldnt be as biased as this. In fact I dont see where he even asked about movie playback ability. So that point is nill.

Your PS3 points are mostly correct.. but your 360 points are absolutely incorrect.

1) The downloadable content is EXCLUSIVE. There is no time exclusive on this. That would be why you "forgot" where you read it. Microsoft loaned TakeTwo $50 million specifically for the EXCLUSIVE content. The content is currently rumoured from a minimum of 10 additional hours of gameplay, all the way to being a whole new city equal to San Andreas. I would say thats quite a substantial EXTRA amount of gameplay your missing out on.

2) Compressed HD is the majority of HD material. You make it sound like its bad. Most people watch HD material on cable or satellite. Well guess what that is? Compressed. If your satisfied with HBO-HD. Then you will be satisfied with the HD movies you can download on the 360.

3) It does not cost $60 to play XboxLive. The going rate is $49 straight up. A quick scan of weekly sales on the internet or through sales flyers in your Sunday newspaper usually provides you with a retail selling a 12+1 (13 total) month subcription card for $39. Its not just about the money.. theres a reason why the PSN network is free.. use Live and you will see the difference.

4) 360's in the past were prone to RROD. Noone knows the real number, even you. RROD doesnt happen from "playing too much". When it does occur its random. The error itself is random. Thats the bad news. The good news. All 360's come with a 3 year warranty. Free. The best news. The newer units (the Falcons introduced in September '07) have dramatically reduced the chance of RROD. As the internals, heatsink and power supply were redesigned to specifically address RROD problems.

5) If your in the US. Chances are you have more friends with a 360 than PS3. The 360 has outsold the PS3 approximately 3 to 1 here.

To the original poster:

In the end its up to you. If a scratched disc and RROD are really that scary to you. And theres nothing to say the PS3 wont RROD either. The PS3 has its own share of minor failures.. the most common being the Bluray drive going bad. Although its no where near the scale of the 360's failures.

My "fair" opinion is that those items are extremely minor in the grand scheme of things. The biggest item you may want to focus on considering it sounds like have you BOTH systems by your original post is:

Downloadable Xbox360 only GTA4 content

Be patient until more information is released.. after all the game isnt available for sale until the 12 days from now. Research what is more important to you.. the extra content or the scratch resistant disc/RROD.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^you two need to lay off the 360 vs. ps3 crap. it doesn't matter what system you own. just let it go.

i heard that it will cost upwards of 20 dollars or more. **** that.

Blklighting.. check the thread title.

Hi. Will the PS3 version play just as good or better than the Xbox version?

The subject of the thread **IS** 360 vs. PS3 crap.

One version **IS** different than the other. So it would matter which system you decide to buy it for.

Actually, the thread "title" says nothing of the sort.

To put it simply:
Hi. Will the PS3 version play just as good or better than the Xbox version?

YES.

What is contained in the DLC is all speculation. For all we know it could be a bunch of lame costumes and a few lousy missions. How much is added is just a guess at this point

If you want to buy this game based of of DLC then maybe you should wait till that comes out to see what it is.

Im going with the PS3 just because its the system i prefer.

Love expressing your sensitive side.

But not macdumpy's incorrect info right?
As long as he got PS3's info right it is all good.
All he was doing was correcting his misinformation/confusion and you call his post flaimbait?

Yikes. I thought I was being unbiased. Sorry guys. All my prices are in CAD, again, sorry.

Here is one of the links for PS3 DLC -- it's not the SAME dlc, but DLC none the less - I have a very restrictive firewall here, so I can't get to most game sites, but this may give you a lead on what to google for.

Heh--your only real problem was bringing up system issues which are irrelevant if he already owns both systems. "Blu-Ray movies vs XBox Live movies" is irrelevant to GTA4. And, not specifying CAD.

But, yeah--there is talk that there will be DLC for the PS3, too.

If I had both systems, as of today I'd probably get it for the 360 since that is the only system with announced guaranteed DLC, even though I doubt I'd buy it*. The amount of stuff on the disc will be enough to satisfy me, I'm sure. When the DLC is finally available, I'm sure there will be other games that I'll want to play as opposed to revisiting Liberty City for new missions.

Everyone needs to relax....

* Depending on the specific details, of course

Yesterday, when I read this post, I was speaking with a coleague who is getting a PS3 for GTA4, and blu-ray. His 'justification' was that although he's a casual gamer -- as in he doesn't game all the time --he wanted a more 'hardcore' system, but didn't like the idea of paying online fees for the (maybe) once a month he would like to game online. And, he gets good WAF for buying a blu-ray player.

When I saw the RROD fears, I ASS-umed that the origional poster was in the same boat.

Now back to daydreaming about being home playing GT5...

read my sig, and I'm still telling you to get the 360 version

And this is why I hate DLC. Puposely holding back material that could be in the main game for the sole purpose of nickel and diming us later on. I don't buy DLC for this reason, too costly for too little crap.

As recently as a few months ago if someone asked me for my opinion to get 360 or PS3 I would have picked 360 without hesitation. But now with sweet games like GT5 and MGS4, the victory of Blu-Ray, much better crossplatform games, and a rumble controller, I am not so sure. I am more excited about PS3 this year for sure.
