Since there is no dedicated music subforum (is there?) I thought I would post this here since many of us are fond of our Steely Dan and Fagen surround discs. I have not seen anything about a surround release of this, although the website says that they are considering other formats. But the sound quality of the CD should be the usual that we have come to expect from these guys (Scheiner is an engineer). Becker's last CD (1994's 11 Tracks of Whack) sounds fantastic.

Scheiner is an engineer.

But don't ever tell him that -- he believes that he designs car stereo systems that bear his initials. :)

That would be awesome! A CD, then a deluxe CD+DVD-Audio release would be excellent. That seems to be a smart and elegant way to release on this poor, poor format.
Otherwise, why don't they do something forward-looking like FLAC downloads? Even hi-res FLAC.

I am sure it will sound good "technically" but he has to be one of the worst vocalists in (smooth) rock history. I find his noodling guitar work a little uninspired as well and will most likely skip this one. I am also fearing that they will "showcase" some of his work during the Steely Dan tour this summer, ugghh...

Yeah, but what quality/format? IMO every band/artist now should release new albums on their websites with these options

Hi-res FLAC (burn to blu-ray or put on HTPC/streaming server or listen on PC)
CD-quality FLAC (burn to CD or listen on PC)
224kbps MP3 (put on iPod or listen on PC)

And should have a little instructions PDF and download links for free programs to burn music to blu-ray and CD. OR even offer ISO files that the users can download if they've bought the entire album.

Couldn't you buy a hi-res (SACD, whatever) version for less than the price of a blank blu-ray disc?

I'm talkin eventually. The discs have been coming down and will soon be similar to dual layer DVD-R prices.
But I would personally just be interested in HTPC use. The thing is, you can't burn most albums onto DVD-Audio unless you pay for an expensive MLP-encoding program.

I suppose DVD-Audio ISO could be an option. I think one site already does that. Musicgiants I think.
